This is the most uninspiring story I've ever read to try and bilk me out of money. If I'm going to wire transfer my life savings, I at least want to read about a sick prince with no heirs, or a greedy bank holding onto an inheritance, or something. Put some effort into it next time Mr. Poon!

Say you like the idea of FileVault but you prefer not to have your entire home directory. Or you're tired of reclaiming disk space in the sparseimage each time you log out.

I'm pretty sure this is new in Leopard/Safari 3. I clicked on m0n0wall's traffic graph, which requires Adobe's SVG Viewer and to my surprise it worked. I tried installing it in Tiger and it was a no go, but with Leopard it works out of the box, I think.

Having been exposed to the IPTV industry a little I've found that most of the vendors don't make real wonderful products. Some of them are still very beta and missing features, both set top manufacturers and middleware alike.

I've played with a few JavaScript image zooming scripts like Highslide and Lightbox, but I think Cabel Sasser of Panic may have them both beat with FancyZoom. It's certainly the most OS X-like, with Quick Look and Dashboardesque elements (You can even shift+zoom for a slow motion effect).

It's price at free for non-commercial, and $39 for commercial use.

Logitech's Harmony Remote software drops two directories in your home folder. One called "browser - logitech" and one called "Logitech".

Isn't this what ~/Library/Application Support is for? Why do I have to have my home folder junked up like this?

Part of the new 1.1.3 update for the iPhone (and iPod touch) includes the ability to save a website on your home screen, directly from Safari.

As a website owner, you have the option of creating and providing a custom icon to represent your site on the user's home screen.

I've always liked Movable Type sites for always not quite looking like just another blog (unlike Wordpress/Kubrick) so it's nice seeing an open source version released.

Secure Works performs a fantastic forensic investigation into the botnet responsible for sending out millions of Ron Paul spams last October. It's an interesting look into the world of botnets in general too.

If you've been itching to download Quicksilver, Blacktree's site is back after a lengthy outage. And, a new version of Quicksilver is available with an added bonus: it's Wildcard, which is billed as a virtual space for gaming. It also requires 10.5+.

Recently a site has popped up and it's been making the rounds supposedly revealing "secret" holiday specials for Wal-Mart. What struck me immediately though is the domain name - holiday.ri-walmart.com.

It's day two of Leopard for me, and luckily most everything works as expected.

First, I'm happy to announce that the BBR IM Checker Widget is fully Leopard compatible, so grab it today if you don't already have it.

Just some fun phishes recently received. This first one is addressed "Dear user of PayPal Services", well I guess that would be me! I also like the extra two exclamation points at the end of the last sentence in red.

This may not be useful, but it will probably be a lot of fun to play with: The StupidFilter, a bayesian filtering engine for determining the ultimate in subjectivity, stupid comments. They say they have a large database of comments already, mostly from YouTube, and you can check out a quick demo by loading up random stupidity.

There's a system update out if you haven't noticed. Supposedly adds keyboard support for the Internet channel, and some sort of update to Everybody Votes. I haven't had a chance to check it out yet myself.

Also in recent Wii news, the Japanese Virtual Console site is pretty comprehensive now with videos for nearly every downloadable title.

Someone accidentally discovered an interesting and undocumented feature on Apple's new thin aluminum keyboards, it actually protects you from accidentally bumping the caps lock key.

I was able to confirm it on my own new keyboard - sure enough, it takes a tiny bit longer to push down the key before the caps lock activates.

Today's Apple Store closing was a false alarm, but being that it is October now any date is fair game for Leopard to be released. It could literally be announced any day now, say maybe even Friday? Could we have 10.5 on 10/5?

Exciting stuff. Amazon today pulled the curtains of their new music store (in beta of course) and at first glance it seems to be the first real competition to iTunes - not an easy task! Just today Virgin announced it's shutting down its crappy store, and just last month Sony announced plans to disconnect Connect.
