Time Warner Cable intends to target more municipal contracts for broadband services after signing its first such deal with the Village of Pleasant Prairie.

The 10-year, $1 million contract calls for Time Warner to install 27 miles of fiber-optic cable, supplying the village's three business parks and municipal buildings with its Business Class high-speed Internet and digital television service. Most of the project is expected to be completed by July.

Time Warner Cable's residential phone service is now available in Newtown and Clermont County, the company said.

Called Digital Phone, the service uses Voice over Internet Protocol technology, known as VoIP, which allows voice calls to be digitized and sent over high-speed Internet connections or cable lines, as opposed to routing calls over the traditional circuit-based phone lines.

Subscribers to Time Warner Cable's high-speed Road Runner Internet service now can send e-mails with 45-second video greetings attached.

Called Video Mail, the service is free to Road Runner subscribers and requires that the sender have a PC with at least a 500 MHz processor and a Web cam. The recipient does not have to be a Road Runner user but must have a high-speed Internet connection, Time Warner said.
