Louisville Metro officials have scheduled a series of public meetings on cable-television service to help develop a “comprehensive needs assessment” as part of reaching a franchise agreement with Time Warner Cable.

Time Warner Cable will pull the plug on the NFL Network for former Insight Cable customers on Tuesday night, says the the NFL Network.

That’s when the NFL Network’s contract expires with Insight cable, which was bought earlier this year by Time Warner.

Notwithstanding assertions by representatives of Time Warner Cable that they are negotiating with Hearst Television, Time Warner is attempting to create the illusion of a breakdown of the retransmission consent negotiation process. Although Hearst Television presented Time Warner with a proposal yesterday that was within 5% of its offer to Hearst on July 9, Time Warner has failed to respond.

“The O’Reilly Factor,” “Restaurant Impossible” and “Hardcore Pawn” could be in danger in the latest fights between Insight Communications and the channels it carries.

Insight parent Time Warner Cable gave notice Friday that 14 additional channels could be dropped soon if negotiations devolve into fights such as the ones that cut WLKY off the cable system this week and WDRB for about a week last month.

The company is required by the Federal Communications Commission to give 30 days’ notice of potential channel changes, including expiring agreements.

HBO GO soon will be available on Kindle Fire for Time Warner Cable and finally for former Insight subscribers, Time Warner announced today. But don’t ask me exactly when.

Notice to Insight cable subscribers: WLKY-TV's parent company, Hearst Television, is currently negotiating a renewal of its carriage agreement with Insight.

If negotiations are not successfully concluded before July 1, 2012, you may not be able to view WLKY on Insight if carriage is no longer authorized, unless Insight elects to continue carrying our Signal which it asserts it has the right to do until July 25th.

Hearst believes that Insight does not have that authority without Hearst's consent and is reserving all rights if such unauthorized carriage occurs.

However, you will be able to receive WLKY over the air and from other cable and satellite providers.

Insight Communication’s $3.5 million deal Friday to renew its franchise agreement with Louisville Metro government appears to pave the way for the cable provider’s $3 billion sale to Time Warner Cable to close in the next few months.

However there’s no assurance that about 1,500 Insight jobs will remain in Louisville once Time Warner takes ownership.

(Reuters) - Time Warner Cable has reached a deal to buy The Carlyle Group's cable operator Insight Communications Co for around $3 billion in cash, a source familiar with the matter said on Sunday.
Time Warner could announce the deal as soon as Monday morning, the source said.

Insight is the 10th-largest cable operator in the United States, Carlyle's website says. It sells cable television, high-speed Internet and telephone services, serving around 750,000 customers in Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky and Ohio.

Fox Broadcasting announced on Wednesday that it is severing ties with WTVW (Fox 7).

Fox Broadcasting now has an agreement with WEVV to air the Fox primetime and sports programming on WEVV's secondary channel, which is now called My44.

LOUISVILLE — A group of customers is suing Lexington's cable television provider over the rental fees they pay for digital converter boxes.

The customers argue in the federal lawsuit that Insight Communications should allow subscribers to shop around for a box they can buy in order to eliminate a monthly $15.95 charge for premium services.

Since early May, the talk of whole home DVR service has given way to reality as cable operators, one by one, launch their new offerings to subscribers across the U.S. Cox Communications got the ball rolling as the first cable operator to announce its service, and two more providers were quick to chime in.
