RCN is adding 68 full-time customer service jobs to its Bethlehem call center, part of a commitment to increase local presence of its representatives.

The company expects to add the jobs over the next 60 days to its Avenue C location.

Earlier this year, the company released its iPad app -- a diddy that showcases functions like remote control features, ToDo List prioritizing and Season Pass management.

After hinting at a number of apps for smaller-screen devices (boasting all manners of operating systems), the latest print edition of CEPro has delivered solid intel that the aforesaid whispers are becoming reality.

TiVo Premiere Q is the company's first quad-tuner gateway set-top box, a higher-end option than its flagship Premiere dual-tuner digital video recorder.

RCN Corp. said today it plans to add 41 customer service jobs at its call center in Bethlehem.

RCN internet, cable and phone services announced today that it will offer free calls to Japan and Japan Mobile for its phone customers.

Calls must be made from the customer's home line, but the company warns that not all calls may be completed due to the damage from the recent earthquake an subsequent tsunami in Japan.

All RCN customers will also have access to Japanese television programming through March 31 on channel 504.

PLAINS TWP., Jan 08, 2011 (The Times Leader - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- For half a century, Service Electric Cable has been the sole cable service provider for residents in Wilkes-Barre.

That could soon change.

RCN Telecom Services LLC , the company that could soon offer competition to Service Electric, is also looking to add up to 85 positions at its existing local call center this year and will hold an employment open house next week to interview potential employees.

RCN is in the process of installing cable lines in South Wilkes-Barre and has city authorization to offer cable services for the next decade.

According to GigaOM.com , don’t expect Hulu Plus to appear any time soon on your TiVo devices supplied by cable companies like Suddenlink, Cox or RCN – despite the fact that it’s slated to come to TiVo’s Premiere DVR soon.

The trouble is that rights holders are resisting subscription-based streaming content being placed next to cable-powered VOD offerings, and they’re preventing services like Hulu Plus and Netflix on any device provided to you by your pay TV operator through licensing clauses.

Suddenlink announced last week that it would love to offer its customers access to Netflix on its Premiere DVRs, but can’t because Netflix isn’t able to deliver its subscription service to DVRs leased by cable companies. Netflix did confirm that it’s because their contracts don’t allow it and now Hulu is reporting the same problem.

Many cable customers in the Lehigh Valley area will see rate increases in 2011, changes the companies say reflect rising programming costs plus other operating expenses.

The amount of the increase varies based on service — it’s at least $4 a month with RCN and about $10 a month for some Service Electric customers — though RCN customers defined as loyal will be exempt from price hikes.

RCN Corp., a provider of video, Internet, and voice services, announced the launch of it TiVo Premiere service for its customers in the Boston area.

With TiVo as the primary provider of RCN digital video recorders, or DVRs, local RCN customers will be able to "combine their digital TV, movies, Web, and music all into one box," RCN and TiVo said in a press release.

Features offered as part of the new service include a vast video on demand and music library; integrated search, which instantly scans across all programs - TV, VOD, and online content - to find exactly what a user wants to watch; and automatic recordings, RCN said.
