Internet Light Goes Red, DSL Resets

It has happened for months now. I'll be using the Internet when browsing won't work anymore. A minute later, the Internet light on the modem (2WIRE 2701HG-B) will go red. Another minute later, both the Internet and DSL lights reset.

At the phone jack, I have a filter there that has one socket for the DSL phone wire, and another socket for a phone. Since I do not have a phone near my computer, only the DSL phone wire is plugged into the filter, and not another phone or fax...

Some numbers right now...

DSL Down Up
Current Rate: 576 kbs 512 kbs
Max Rate: 6744 kbs 884 kbs
Current Connection:
Current Noise Margin: 31.0 dB 18.0 dB
Current Attenuation: 37.8 dB 16.5 dB
Current Output Power: 11.0 dBm 11.8 dBm

My current rate is usually 3000 kbs.

This might be remotely interesting, by 2010's date next year if they have relatives up there they will have to dial all 10 digits to get connected to their party.

»Still getting 2.6Mb/s after upgrade to Elite

Apparently if you use IPcop you might have to check your traffic shaping to ensure that it is working correctly and set at the the right speed for your speed pkg you purchased.

be sure to check the QoS of devices you may be operating when you upgrade and downgrade speeds.

I get as least a post a month in the direct forum for this information. I have posted many times in the public forum on how to do this.

[Trouble] 2wire dsl modem/router retraining issue

Hi All

Suppose this is a retraining or line issue or something. been having modem retrain at different times of the day, temps have risen around here, but now cooled to seasonal temps--suppose i could see if it happens today or not.

DNSguy See Profile pointed out to me the other day apparently we do have a FAQ on the RDNS delegations. here it is:

»SBC DSL FAQ »How do I set up a reverse DNS Record on an Enhanced Static IP account?

I am not sure if the prices are still correct but I think they might be on track. I think you might still have to call them and some have advised that calling was quite a bit quicker, none the less they may need that information on that form as well.

here's another link that's been updated from 05/04/09 of this year.

»Ameritech - SBC FAQ »Setting up reverse DNS for SBC-Ameritech Static IP address blocks.

I found this one from the direct forum.

This afternoon my downstream was capped at 384 kbps when last night it was at 1.5 mbps.

if you happen to e-mail your prequal from the information at the following link:

You don't need a post in the direct forum too. I have some people that do both for some reason and basically this duplicates my work, and causes delays.

Just need one copy not several.

Thanks
david

person posted in the direct forum kind of disappointed his pro speeds were not higher, and he was losing sync. It seems the computer's power supply was the culprit.

Connection dropping?
Have a 2wire, or moto 2210?
(old news - 08:23PM Tuesday Jan 13 2009)
If you have a 2wire modem and it's consistently dropping connections, but you maintain sync there is something you might need to be aware of. The 2wire can drop your connections if you attempt to exceed it's maximum ports opened per connection.

need a password reset? A quick call can resolve!
(old news - 05:16PM Friday Apr 20 2007)
Due to some concerns, and yes I can see why, it might be best to give the IVR a call. As gust334 See Profile found out it was quite easy to do, and in three simple steps

The quick steps are

1.) call 1-877-722-3755, either from DSL number or punch in the dsl number when it prompts for it

2.) When you hear "Main menu" and after the prompt gets done talking say "Password Reset"

3.) It will ask you some security questions, just answer the questions required and you should be good to go.

If you have any problems past that point just post in the direct forum. Simple instructions for your direct post(if necessary):

1.) follow link: »/forum/sbcdirect
2.) Select "New topic" in right hand corner
3.) In the subject line put this : [Password reset failure]
4.) include the following
• ID to reset
• contact number
• alternate contact number

5.) have the following ready when we call
• security code
• If prompted or requested last 4 of SSN if required

We urge you to try the IVR first for it seems that most so far have found it quite quick, and it's available 24 hours a day.

How to test at the nid/sni/gray test jack
(old news - 05:10PM Thursday Feb 15 2007)

Note: It might be important to read all the information first before attempting a test.

Q: Why or what is the purpose of a NID or SNI test (network interface test)?

A: The purpose of this test is to determine if the problem is external of your location or internal to your location.
