Canada's privacy commissioner, fresh off forcing Facebook to change how it handles users' data, is ordering Bell Canada to change how it informs internet customers of its network-management practices.

Just how bad it is Bell Canada's P2P traffic filtering? Not bad at all, so long as you're happy having your 5Mbps DSL link operate at half the speed of a dial-up modem. That's the assertion of a group of small Canadian ISPs that are asking Canada's telecoms regulator to intervene and force Bell to call off its deep packet inspection dogs.

Parliament Hill in Ottawa will be the site of a rally in support of Net Neutrality, organized by industry players and telecom service providers who are hoping to draw increased attention to the matter of equal access to the Internet.

Among the scheduled presenters are: Meera Karunananthan, Council of Canadians; James Clancy, NUPGE; Philippa Lawson, CIPPIC; Tom Copeland, CAIP; Steve Anderson, CDM National Coordinator; NDP MP Charlie Angus and Liberal MP Mauril Bélanger.

Well, the last couple of weeks have been a good news/bad news seesaw ride for those of us in the Canadian bandwidth throttling/copyright playground.

As you may recall, last month the Canadian Association of Internet Providers (CAIP) filed a complaint against Bell-Sympatico with CRTC.
