writes in to note that Grande Communications, the San Antonio based overbuilder who might be shopping itself around, has updated their
website to reflect the new "G-Force Cheetah with Bolt" plan they're now offering. The $50 uncapped tier will provide 12Mbps customers with bursts up to 24 Mbps, though the PowerBoost-enabled tier will burst as high as the network can stand (sometimes beyond 30 Mbps) if it's able. Comcast's popular Powerboost technology, which increases speeds for the first few moments (in Grande's case they say
ten seconds) of a transfer has been licensed to Cox Communications, Time Warner Cable, Shaw, and other operators.
Grande Communications, a Texas communications company that bills itself as the first broadband company in the region to build a fiber network from the ground up, is
looking into options for being bought out by another company. The decision was made in part after a
similar purchase last year in which Everest Broadband was acquired by SureWest. The $173 million sale translated into the unusually high price of $4600 per subscriber for Everest. Based on that estimate, Grande could hope to be sold for up to $600 million although theyre currently hoping for a half billion dollar price tag.
