Customers of VoIP operator Broadvox Direct (see our
user reviews) write us to note that they've received an e-mail saying the company is pushing their residential VoIP customers off on a company by the name of
Phone Power. In much the same way DSL provider Speakeasy did in the
residential broadband space, Broadvox at some point made the decision that the real money was in the small business voice space, and that residential users just weren't worth their time. From the e-mail sent to Broadvox customers:
This is to notify you that as of 9/15/2009/ your Broadvox Direct phone service will be handled by Phone Power, a leader in broadband telephone service. You will continue with the same number, the same price, and the same great service you've come to expect with Broadvox Direct. Your service will be automatically moved to Phone Power on 9/15/2009/. You will receive new upgraded hardware several days prior to this date for use with your new Phone Power service.
Users kind of got the hint in mid 2008, when Broadvox completely gutted their residential VoIP website and began simply offering a business VoIP user portal. Customers who run into problems during the transition are urged to call Phone Power at 888-607-6937. You can find our user Phone Power reviews
here, most of which are positive. "Phone Power was founded by the orignal founders of DSL Extreme," the company tells us, having moved on after DSL Extreme was sold to Ikanos Communications. "We feel a high quality residential and small business play backed by great support is the way to build any communication company," says the company.
