After being on Verizon DSL for 3 years I had faith in DSL over cable. Originally signed up for both but my speed on cable modem would drop to 56k at night so I stayed with Verizon. I probably would have stay if Verizon offered a faster speed. The fastest available in my area (no FIOS) is 3mb. This speed was fine but now with my XBOX 360 and other applications I needed more speed. The current rate I am synced for is 7.9mb down and 1mb up. On the speed test I see my speed at 6.9mb down with 869kb up so not too bad.

I had Verizon DSL with a basic lan line and call forwarding to my Vonage number. Made all my calls through Vonage and house was wired up for Vonage as well. So for Verizon I was paying $65 with taxes and fees for DSL, phone and call forwarding. Add this to Vonage $27 per month, total for phone and internet $92. The reason I did keep a lan line was for my alarm system and 911. Now with Earthlink its $70 for internet plus unlimited local and long distance.

Install process was fine the only issue I had was that it took 21 days from me ordering to my service being live.

I received a ZyXEL modem and have it connected to my Verizon router. I switched the wan port from DSL to Ethernet 1.

Now I will cancel my Verizon and Vonage and hopefully save money while getting faster speeds.
