I had 4mbps service for several years. It worked really well. A friend of mine a few blocks away upgraded to 10mbps for no extra cost. I figured, why not. Well, he's a new customer, and I'm not, so I get crappier pricing - go figure. I hate when companies do nothing to keep their existing customer base happy.

First they tell me I cannot get it in my area (same DSLAM as my friend is on). They were supposed to get a tech out to run some tests and call me back a few days later. Didn't happen.

I called again, and explained what happened. They sent a tech out a about a week later and also shipped me a modem I didn't want. (They said there was a wireless version for $3/ mo and a wired one for free). I said I only needed wired and routing. That was supposed to be free. It's not. BS. My old one was. And yes, that had wireless G, etc.

They also failed to mention there would be a $15 1 time charge for this modem "upgrade."

The day after I received the modem, I plugged it in, set up all my networking parameters, and waited to get switched over. The tech came, and I told him everything was up and running. We did a speed test, and everything was good to go. 10mbps down, 900k up.

On the phone they said I'd need to have a filter installed and get things rewired. I told them I already had that done due to line noise. They didn't seem to understand. The left hand does not talk to the right hand apparently.

A few days later, my speed dropped to 2mbps/800k. I called to get it sorted out. They sent a tech out again. By the next morning when the tech arrived, everything was back up to specs. He didn't do anything.

Since then, I've been at 2mbps again. On occasion getting up to 4, sometimes 5, and rarely to 8. Haven't seen 10 anymore. My friend down the road has the same problem, but he's too lazy to say anything.

So they're sending a tech out again January 4. This is getting ridiculous. Obviously there's a problem on their end, or my modem (and my friend's) is about to die. Mine locked up twice this week.

I'm paying more and getting less than before. Not happy. I will give them a week to sort it out before I switch to another service.

TDS 10 Mbps Line

I am having the exact same issue and its getting frustating. I called them like 4 times over the last 2 weeks and every time I have to wait for 15-20 mins before I can get someone on the phone. They sent a tech twice over and the same exact thing about changing modems, applying filters etc. During the day, when the the tech is on the premises, the speed seems to be OK around 7-10 MBPs. However, the problem arises later in the day after 5 PM and this is a routine. Every evening, my supposedly 10 MBPs line drops its speeds in the range of 2-5 MBPs. Its really frustrating and they are now sending me a new modem, which I think is not the issue. I have a feeling the infrastructure is not capacble to handling all the new 10 MBPs connections they have sold recently in the area and the peak evening hours is when the issue really surfaces. But that is when I want it the most, so basically I am paying a premium for a supposed 10 MBPS line.
