i'm using the former RR Lite(768k/128k) service that is now AOL HIGH SPEED, and I couldn't be happier, all for $25.90 a month. The service is quicker than the dialup i was used to, and just the right speed for me. Ordering couldn't have been simpler! Here is a time line of how everything went down:

On June 2nd, I called AOL to order, the person that answered was very helpful, and spoke perfect British English in India. The AOL person took all my information, and at the end of the call they transfered me to Time Warner Cable to set up the installation, Very seemless. From June 2nd til June 12th I was able to use the AOL dialup service for free.

On June 12th, the Time Warner contractor came out and installed everything(I never had cable, since I have Directv, so they had to put a whole in the floor.) He brought out the Cable Modem, and installed it via USB.

Everything has been up and running since then.

I like how I get all the stuff that comes with the regular RoadRunner service for free.

I would recommend the aol high speed service to anyone that has dialup and doesn't need a super fast internet connection. The service is perfect for using VOIP.com VOIP service!

I would however, recommend against using the AOL Security center, and using the free Anti-virus/spyware/firewall that comes with RoadRunner, its called Computer Assosicates eTrust. less intrusive, and less system intensive. But I'd use the AOL parental controls, as it provides a way to monitor internet use outside of the AOL Browser thing.

What a waste

Seriously, DUMP AOL! Their software is bloated crap and they overcharge the service. You can get dsl at the same speed (768k) for 14.95/month through verizon. Or get 4 times faster (3Mbps/768kbps) for only 3 bucks more than you pay now, 29.95/month.

Dump aol, for gods sake.

Do you still have to use their software

Do you still have to have their browser open to use the internet. I've used aol dial up before, and I had to leave their browser open otherwise it would disconnect me. I've heard that broadband is supposed to be always on so I was wondering if this is still the case with AOhell highspeed. I would get sbc dsl If it was available in my area, but they have been saying it will be available soon for about 4 years and I think $50 is too much to pay for regular roadrunner. From what I undestand this is supposed to be dsl from a cable company, for an ok price is this true? Also I don't have cable will I have to get in order to get aol highspeed?
