Tried PacBell/SBC/AT&T (whatever their name is today) and they refused me service under their new policy of only providing service within so many feet of the central office.
Order/install process was easy and I was kept informed via email by DSLExtreme.
Had to call tech support to find out they don't use PPPoE. Had to set my DSL modem to DHCP. Quick and easy call.
No bad experiences at all. Much better than AT&T/SBC. Even if I were near an RT or CO, I think I'd still use DSLExtreme instead of AT&T.
