    My Other Reviews·Comcast
I've been looking for a secondary ISP as a potential to replace my Comcast connection (if they jack up the price too much when my yearly deal ends - if not, I'm going to have have two providers at home.) I found DSLExtreme offered a dry loop connection via Verizon with 3M/768K for $25/mo + surcharges. Verizon wanted $35/mo + surcharges.

So, it piqued my interest. I visited the DSLX forum, and even sent DSL_Zak and DSL_GM some IM's asking them about the service and such. I finally signed up on 05/30/08.

What do I like and why did I choose DSL Extreme? (The Pros:)

    * They don't ding you for running a personal server. If I want to run a personal low-bandwidth server that doesn't violate their TOS, they let me.
    * They have in-forum tech support via DSL_Zak and DSL_GM.
    * They are extremely quick at responding to inquiries.
    * They were less expensive than Verizon. (I'm curious how much a renewal after the initial year will be, though.)
    * The connection seems rock solid, and I don't seem to have any speed issues.
    * They have dedicated e-mail servers, newsgroups, etc, and don't seem to throttle my Bittorrent download of the latest Fedora Linux release.

    The cons:

    * 3M/768K is a Verizon speed limitation. They (Verizon) do not have the 7M capable cards yet in my Remote Terminal to support 7M DSL. (Note: I also have 10M/1M @ Comcast.)
    * PPPoE - ugh. (My Sonicwall fails over to Comcast for a minute until the DSL Extreme login is completed, so its not that bad.)

As you can see, the pro's handily outweigh the cons. Its a great service for the money.
