Doesn't go down much, but it almost doesn't matter.

I've had CenturyLink DSL since it used to be Qwest offering the service around here. It used to seem fast but they've decided they're fast enough.

I'm right in the middle of the city, literally on the same street as CenturyLink's central office. Although they make a big deal about offering 40Mbps or better (there was even a media splash about 1Gbps offerings), I've been at 5Mbps for a very long time now. Every so often I inquire about options for something faster, but no matter how hard I push I never get more than that no upgrades are planned for my area. I work from home, and the current speed is slow enough that it interferes with getting things done at times. My cell phone is about 3x as fast as DSL, but the monthly caps mean it's not really an alternative.

The most annoying thing about this is that people directly across the street from me can get 40Mbps. But when I call CenturyLink they act like I'm out in the sticks somewhere that broadband doesn't exist.
