    Gentlemen:
After reading all the reviews on US WEST, I just had to comment. I
installed the DSL in April of 1999. I knew almost nothing about computers
and had never even opened one up. US WEST offered a free NIC, a free CISCO
675 modem, and I did the installation myself, saving the cost of the
    installation.

I had to rely on their instructions to install the NIC, the modem, configure
TCP/IP stacks, etc. I got through it very easily and found them to be very
helpful. I ordered the 256k Megabit package, but found that my speed was
around 650k. To this day I still get between 256 and 640 depending on
internet congestion. I have never had it go out even once. I can get any
kind of media - streaming or otherwise. I tested my speed just the other
day at Microsoft's testing site and it was 618k. Needless to say, I have no
complaints. Another thing that I think is important is that when I tested
my DSL security at SHIELDS UP, it said I was very secure and had no
suggestions for me at all. I do not have a firewall or extra security at
    all.

I also have US WEST for my ISP. I cannot rave about them enough. I was on
AOL previously, and within minutes of signing on had porn E-Mail coming at
me in all directions - even though I had never even surfed to any such
sites. So you can come to your own conclusions as to how they got my email
address. I had so much spam in such a short time, that it was horrible.
Now I spend hours each day on the internet and go wide and far and to this
date, I have never had even one piece of spam.
NOT ONE! I do subscribe to newsletters, but the only mail I have ever
received is that which I have asked for. I can't even compare this service
to awful AOL. I am just so grateful. I have never had to worry about spam
filters because I've never received any spam. I think this is amazing!
Also, I find that their mail delivery is very fast. And, last but not
least, they keep lowering their prices for their ISP service. Way to go!

Now, I did sign up before the big rush, and so they were able to devote a
lot of time to me because I was such a newbie. But I think people have to
realize that there is such a rush of orders for the service and that they
are only people, after all. I believe all the DSL providers are having
problems keeping up with orders - so give them a break. Once you have the
speed they give you believe me all will be forgiven. I can't imagine ever
going back. I have only had to email them with a few questions since I
signed up, but they returned my messages within 24 hours. I cannot comment
on support issues since I haven't needed any.

Anyway, I just wanted to put in my two-cents worth. I think they are
    great.
    Thanks.
