I live approximately 15 miles from town so when I found out I qualified for DSL I was ecstatic. The time I took from ordering to installation was three days. I am on the 5/640 plan and always receive this speed. The tech support is awesome. I have a Belkin router and was having difficulty getting Xbox Live to work. Embarq does not support other routers but the tech helped me regardless and now everything works perfectly. This is my only option as cable is not available anywhere near my area, but even if they were, I would not switch as I have bundled my Dish Network, Phone, and Internet together which saves me $20 a month.
The connection has died a few times when we had some storms, but our lines are poor way out in the country and the connection has always come back on in a few minutes. Also, the Zyxel 660 modem doesn't work correctly as port forwarding is broken, but a decent router and bridge mode solves this.
Bottom line, Embarq is awesome and so is the service.

Since Embarq dropped Earthlink their email service has gone south. I had to completly drop their service and us Gmail. Also, why can't you offer newsgroups??!!

I am currently experiencing very high, around 300-500ms ping times because of sprintlink.net, Embarq says they can't do anything about it. It started happening about 3 days ago. I hope they fix something soon.

It seems that at least for me the high ping times have been taken care of. I have been experiencing days without service starting at the beginning of this month. I have contacted Embarq and all they can tell me is they are aware of the problem. No appologies or answers.
