I was a dial up customer for a very long time, with a small local company. I had went to TX to visit a friend and got spoiled by the cable connection she had. So as soon as I got back i signed up for the 3.0m/640k plan from sprint. 2 days after i was set up and hitting the 3m download cap. For months i had no problems at all.
Then the trouble started, when Sprint became Embarq, the speeds initially dropped, and connections became unreliable. At one point (around 2 months) The connection would drop out every 5 minutes or so. Tech support was insistent that it was my problem and not theirs. SO i jumped through all their hoops with power cycling, connection issues, phone box etc.. And they still said it was my problem.. this went on for what seemed like forever, then finally they rolled a truck to replace a faulty switch. Since then all has been well, some minor problems(ie: idiots cutting cables etc.) But i'm generally happy with my service.
However I would recommend, if you have the option, to take another company over Embarq.
Update: All is pretty well, the pings creep up at peak hours, Not to the extent of being useless, but gaming is a no no at these times. Speeds still at top of margins so no complaints from me.
