Very expensive high speed Internet. Same packages in other countries cost much much less and the worst is our ridiculous, annoying MONTHLY DOWNLOAD LIMIT. Here's mine: »www.videotron.com/service/intern···imate-60 $83/month for 60 Mbps down & 10 Mbps up and a MONTHLY DOWNLOAD CAP of 250 gigs.
Download limit of 250 GB/month... To put this in perspective, understand this, a good quality 1080p BluRay movie is about 10 GB; one video game - another 10 GB; just one season of TV series in good HD quality is 30 gigs. If you want the complete TV series (not just one, but all seasons) in good HD quality - that will cost you 100+ gigabytes (never forget, you get 250 GB/month). What if you want to download a few TV series in 1080p? Ha ha! Dream on, sucker...
We are forced to constantly ration our bandwidth and make difficult choices. It's not life or death, but it's not what internet in 21st century Canada should be like. In any normal country a similar package costs much less and no goddamn MONTHLY FUCKING DOWNLOAD LIMIT!
P.S. Dozens of HD TV channels not available on Videotron: »goo.gl/gA5oV
UPDATE (March 2013) Finally, for an additional +$30/month we can now, at last, have unlimited downloads. So my 60Mbps internet comes out to $100+/month - this is ridiculously, insanely overpriced. Even 3rd world countries like Russia, European countries have cheap or even free, unlimited, high speed internet, but not Quebec.

| | Choice Since February of this year the CRTC removed Videotron stranglehold on cable rates in Quebec
Lookup Electronic Box or Teksavvy and you will see the rates are much cheaper and there are unlimited options

1 edit | Re: Choice TekSavvy unlimited 25 Mbps is $78/month and isn't cable but DSL, which I heard is less stable and speeds depend on the number of your neighbors online atm? Electronic Box - similar shady deal, expensive, slowish DSL, only unlimited is limited to 2am-noon -- God is a superstition. Religion is poison.
| | | | | Re: Choice Cable is a shared medium (everyone's traffic goes over the same coax and the headend distinguishes between it), DSL is kind of similar to a dedicated line in that the line to your house is dedicated but you share all the bandwidth leaving and entering the DSLAM like a cable setup. DSL has more dependent factors such as distance and to an extend weather but it might be a better choice for unlimited. | |
