I was paying $39.99 when I first had the service installed back in June of 1999. The current price is $44.99 plus every tax imagined, which is what I should expect out of Time Warner. The service has been reliable since I've had it even with the expansion of service, and addition of new users. I've done the math on moving to others, but this still comes back as the best buy for the bandwidth.

Details of the initial installation are fuzzy, since I've had it for so long. I do recall them sending out a separate crew after installation to run a new line through my back yard because my signal strength was weak. A crew showed up 2 days later, but I stopped that as they were backing off the giant ditch witch to rip up my entire back yard. With a little boost of the signal at the pole I have been fine.

Since my last review I've moved from Huntersville, NC to Davidson, NC which is just a couple towns away (approx.10 miles). I decided to remain with High Speed Internet so I did sign up again with Time Warner. The reality is that it's kind-of-Time Warner....

The area I moved was formerly Adelphia and the sale of it has been held up in the court system because my town want to buy it and so does Time Warner. Appears there was a clause in the Adelphia contract about the town’s ability to have the right of last refusal if they left. This has caused a big political storm, and it’s caused Time Warner who is the interim provider to be a lame duck.

The price is lower where I'm at as part of a package I'm paying $29.95, but I'm getting reduced service with that reduced price.....

I have had a number of intermittent issues with packet loss that I’ve been able to document. The past years I’ve not needed much support from them but when I have in my new location, what a horrible experience. This has been one of the largest driving forces behind the town wanting to take over the service and since moving into this new location I fully support it!

Our local officials just passed the purchase of the system, and I will be saying goodbye to Time Warner at the beginning of 2008. Hello to M-I Connections »www.mi-connection.com/

Sales tax on Internet services will vary for each city. For example, here in Kerrville, TX the first $25 if internet service is tax exempt...

    Municpal cable sucks.

Cincinnati had it, though I am not sure if they still do. In the downtown area you had to get "City Cable" and boy did it suck. At least double what someone on the other side of Central Parkway paid with 1/3 the channels. Service provided by city employees which meant a simple broken cable went for 6 or 8 weeks. Couple that with the fact that it used to be illegal to install a dish inside of Central Parkway and you were just hosed.

It was so bad that bar owners would have DirecTV or Dish installed at their home and then rip the system out and put it in the bar themselves.

This is going to be just like any other city service aside from police and fire. Over promised, over priced and under delivered. It may start out really, really well but they will soon realize as Adelphia did and as Time Warner has that they have a monopoly and they will take advantage of it.

Within a short period of time it will be business as usual.
