TV Packages are priced EXTREMELY high! Everything has gone up since "Spectrum" took over im talking $50+ increases to your bill. With their 2007 DVR boxes that are buggy and crash prone this is especially irritating.

52 Down ?????

I wouldn't have let the guy leave my house without putting that outlet cover back on, nor would he have left without having the system up and running at speeds I could live with. You definitely need to have them send out another tech, or come get their equipment. First, though, have you tried all the tweaks to be found here on DSLR? I have RR at home, and am pleased as punch with it. You shouldn't have to put up with that malarkey. Good luck.

i have roadrunner in florida, 52 is absurd, my Roadrunner runs smoothly at about 800down/100up maybe when setting a cap on your speed they had a typo

patch your os

Go to www.speedguide.net and put in the default patch, and then the ppoe patch. Some programs that are supposed to increase your speed over dial up, set the max download at 56k. Well when you get broadband your speed is still set to 56k in the windows system reg. Dont argue, just do it. I work for a cable provider and I see this all the time. A customer has a download speed of 56k or 128k and it is the result of a "speed increaser" program. When I patch an OS like win 98, the speeds go from 56k to 800k with the default and sometimes to 1400 with the ppoe patch. Be sure to restart after both patchs. One last thing, Shaw cable loves to starve its employees, and treat them worse then dirt. Sometimes it comes down to buying food or having gas money to get back to work. You live off 350 a week and see what it is like. Shaw cable s--ks.

Insight RR Sucks!

Alright. Three weeks and 7 phone calls later I finally have convinced Insight Communications of Columbus, Ohio, that I have a problem with my RR service. I called because I was getting 10+ minutes of TOTAL packet loss and was getting dropped from CS (counter strike servers in Columbus on the RR network). Well they told me it was my machine. I had just moved from the other side of town where RR was run by Time Warner and had not had a problem for two years. They told me it was my router, once again same as before. They told me they're not responsible for network latency outside of their network, the servers ARE ON their NETWORK. Are you getting the picture that they're not listening? They made ME do two weeks of ping plots to prove to them that it was THEIR network and not MY COMPUTER that was wrong. Well after several tersely worded emails to anyone at Insight I could get ahold of I'm getting somewhere. The manager of the tech support department refuses to talk to me even though I have repeatedly requested so. He sent me an email that said 8000+ms pings are within the terms of service for RR and that my problem was 'insignificant'. Needless to say I want some restitution. They haven't offered free service yet but they will or I'm cancelling my service and they better fix the problem. Thanks for letting me rant and don't get Insight RR. Their whole support staff in Columbus is one guy, and he doesn't know much.

WV RR

Well the reason for the slow speeds are because Time Warner did not purchase enough bandwith. They are right now getting 8 T1 lines installed. it should be up and running 1-3 weeks depending on how much Verizon drags their feet on running lines to them. If did not know, Verizon is releasing DSL in the area next month. Time Warner is stepping on their toes.

WV RR ( more )

RR has been slow up / 72 and down 150 for the last few weeks. The only exception was the first week of service.

I have called tech support ( 1 -866... ) several times about this. After complaining and going through the motions with the computer settings and not getting a sufficient answers, I finally called back and let them know that I have installed DSL and cable modems as a tech for the last several years and do telecommunications / computer work so I was not in the mood for any BS.

This got a different change in attitude. I finally got a straight answer that the service was "over sold" in this area and that they were at 95 - 100% of capacity.....

I called the billing office and promptly got a credit ( and will continue to call and get this credit ) until the service is up to "advertised" speeds.

In all fairness, I did not get a hassle with getting the full credit for all the days that were slow.

But I do have a problem with RR for not planning properly, or not stopping the "over selling" of the service sooner to satisfy the customers that they had at the time.

I test the speeds daily, record the speed, and will get every credit on my bill until they correct the issue.

Bad cables?

I had a cracker-jack installer. He went into the attic and found that years ago, when cable was first installed in the house, that the old type of cable was utilized. He strung new cable and tested the signal at all of the splitters and at the end of the cable which goes into the modem. The only problem that I had was with dropped connections and that was taken care of by replacing a bad modem. My best speed has been 2142 for downloading. You have a problem somewhere, and it just takes getting a tech who is willing to go the extra ten yards to find and correct it.

Re: Bad cables?

that is very true, you also have to look at the splitters, in-line connectors, and connectors on the back of the tv's to see if you are getting signal leakage... this can be done by a tech who is willing and able to do this
