Well, we're closing in on the two-year mark in our broadband relationship and I still have no problems with Road Runner. Only minor network hiccups and the occasional latency spike (which is going to happen with any network, I suppose). It's still just like turning on the water faucet- when I sit down to use it, it works. No issues here.

Well, I've had Roadrunner High-speed Cable Internet for nearly a year... it's about time I got around to reviewing it!

When I lived in New Jersey, I was very pleased with my Verizon DSL at 1.5Mbps. When I chose to move to North Carolina, a friend who lives in the area strongly suggested that I subscribe to Roadrunner's Internet service. Having heard the horror stories of Comcast Cablevision's service, I was a bit wary of any cable internet- but he persuaded me that the service was rock-solid. I order the home service, at 3Mb/356kb speeds. The cost: $30 for the first 3 months, then $45 monthly afterwards.

I don't recall exactly how long it took for the technician to come out, but it wasn't long. There were a few problems in selecting the right drop-off for my apartment; we also ran into a small issue with a network setting I had changed for my DSL service- easily fixed once I remember it. The technician also directed me to BBR's site- only to find that I was already a member!

Since then, the service has been as dependable as I could possibly want. In the year I've had it, I believe I've had three outages, none of which lasted for more than a couple of minutes. Speeds are consistent, and my pings to east-coast CS:S servers average around 30-50ms. The only downside is the fact that the connection can "hiccup" for a second or two at random- but this is common to cable networks, from what I understand. It's never anything serious.

More recently, I was pleasantly surprised by RR's increase of download speeds to 5Mbps. One power-cycle of my modem and I was good to go! Still no problems since then, and I am beyond happy with the higher speeds.

The one thing I can't review is the technical support... since I've never had to call them.

Roadrunner offers a content-laden homepage, but admittedly I don't visit it much. It also has a free antivirus program available to subscribers, but I use my own. All I really want from RR is a dependable high-speed connection- and for the last year that's exactly what I've gotten.

    ---

Here we are, a couple years and a thousand miles away from that last review. I'm still with RR, still getting the 5 Mbps service and still happy with everything.
