I didn't really switch to roadrunner as much as I was bought out by them with their Adelphia buyout.
Off the bat, Pre sales destroyed the Adelphia Experience. I was given up front what to expect as well as their policies. Keep in mind that I installed Adelphia years ago, so they probably have changed since then, but Roadrunner is better in this regard.
Installation co-ord, or should I say service transition, was also relatively painless for me. We were told to switch to roadrunner literally three different times. (E-mail, Regular Mail, and Telephone) Setup is pretty much done for you through the browser. I would like to have a manual setup instead of the automatic setup, especially since a lot of the stuff Roadrunner likes to install (such as the roadrunner medic) is unnecessary and tends to screw up more than it helps. But I guess that more of a Tech Support issue than an install one.
As for tech support, I dealt with it on the first day switch, and they seemed to be on the issue rather quickly. I don't know if it will equal Adelphia's service (it got a lot better over 5 years) but it's been good so far. They're taking a hit for the Roadrunner medic screwing up on install, since they're the ones that use it, however.
Reliability has been good so far. no drops, and it's been relatively consistent during the whole process. E-mail on the other hand, isn't. You can receive mail up to 1 day after it was sent, and it seems to be selective in what mail it likes to receive. My guess is spam filtering, but it's definitely slow vs Adelphia's mail offering.
Price and services wise, it's equal to the Adelphia offering, so It's a good value for the speed and services their offering, and with promised speed updates it will hopefully get better. I wish they would give more upstream, but its still a good price. They also don't seem to be throttling ports as much as Adelphia used to, which results in better pings for some of the programs I use, so that's a plus.
Update: 12/15/07: Just recently upgraded to Road Runner Turbo. For $10 they literally double your downstream from 7000kb's to 15000kb's, which is a lot better value compared to Adelphia's original $30 extreme tier. According to the Rep, My bill will actually drop $5-7 dollars due to a 1 year promotion and when it finally goes back to normal, only cost $1-2 dollars more than I was paying before turbo. We'll see what happens in my next statement. E-mail wise, they seemed to iron out the sporadic E-mail problems, and has run good for months now.
