02/12/2007: I'm a former Adelphia customer who was transitioned to TimeWarner back in later November of '06. Since the transition, I have gone through two different speed tiers: 8/512 and now 6/768. 8/512 lasted for about a month; right up until around New Year, and then to my surprise, speeds were changed to 6/768. It was annoying going through the multiple changes, but speeds have been consistent at ~5800/730.

The one cool thing about TW is they give you unlimited transfer in the way of Newsgroups. There's a catch, however. With Adelphia, I could max out my download with the 5GB of transfer they provided through Giganews. Through TW's news provider, I've been able to download my fair share at an average speed of 200kB/s. That's by far not the greatest speed but (I will reiterate this)... as far as I know, there are no transfer caps. You can feel free to test that theory on your own. I've noticed speeds pick up greatly during the night/early morning (500-700kB/s) so if you're a night owl then you might be in heaven. In any case, the extra transfer is a fair trade for the lower transfer speed (in my opinion).

I have yet, in the past 3 months, dealt with TW's Customer Support. Back when I was on 8/512 (right after the transition to TW from Adelphia), I called them to ask what internet packages were available because to me $61 for 512 was a joke. The lady on the phone was courteous and answered my questions quickly, so no complaint there. There have been rumors of 10/1 Extreme in Southern California since the transition to TW began back in November. I still receive fliers advertising that speed, but yet I'm on 6/768. According to the forums here at DSLR, quite a few people in Los Angeles and surrounding areas have began seeing the upgrade. There's another rumor that TW will have So Cal upgraded fully my the end of March; who knows? I'll be glad when/if it gets here.

Bottom line: nothing has gone wrong. I haven't had to call tech support or have a van come out to my house. The connection has always been consistent, even back in the Adelphia days. I don't think 6/768 for $61/month is worth it unless you're like me, and split the bill with 3 other people - or just have money to burn.

08/03/2007: I just realized how long it's been since I updated my review. To tie up the loose ends I left in my February review about 10/1, I was eventually upgraded in April or May (can't remember exactly when). As of six (6) weeks ago, I downgraded to the standard 6/512 package to save some money.

I've had more than a couple small connection issues with Roadrunner the past 2 1/2 months. The 3 months prior to said time all went smoothly. 98% of my issues lasted only 5-20 minutes, but three (3) separate times my internet was down for at least 12 hours... and during one of the 3 occasions, it was down for 36 hours. On June 22, I got TW TV installed in 3 rooms. One standard receiver, one DVR, and one basic cable (without a box). Interestingly enough, the tv and internet went down at the same time and for the same duration during the 3 occasions I previously mentioned, making me think that maybe TW techs were doing some work close by (?). Oh, also those three events happened within an eight (8) day span.. about 10 days after I got cable TV installed. This got really annoying because this was during the same time as my college finals so at times when I was working on stuff late at night, I was unable to use internet for research purposes. However, I was able to use a friend's DSL connection.

Minus the inconsistency in connectivity I have experienced over the past 2 1/2 months (nothing bad in the past 3 weeks or so), Roadrunner has been as solid as Adelphia was. Tech Support has generally been helpful, although I have had to talk to a couple French-Canadian techs. Their accents were somewhat thick, but they stayed on the line with me until the issue was either resolved, passed onto a higher-tier tech, or an appointment for a home visit was made.

04/04/2008 - It's been 8 months since my last review update. No issues to report of. The only thing to say is because I got TV installed, TW took $10/month off internet, which is why I put $34.95. They extended the original 2 month new customer discount to 6 months. DSL just became available in my area 3 months ago, so I might drop TW HSI in favor of 1500/256 because even 6/512 is too much. But we'll see. I don't like to mess with good things, and I already have online billing through TW setup.

    10,000/1,000 in most of SoCal

I had been waiting for the 10,000/1,000 speeds since signing up for RR Extreme in November. Was told by RR that they are working on it. Was told updates would be sent to modem and rebooted remotely to get Extreme Speed in February. Today, 2/27/2007, I unplugged my modem and plugged it back in. Checked speeds and now getting 10,000/1,000. Powering off/on your modem may get you the 10,000/1,000 speed.
