UPDATE: 9/26/11

Nothing to report as I have since moved from Manhattan to the Bronx and no longer subscribe to RR as it is not available where I live.

I switched to RR back in 11/2004 due to poor customer service w/Verizon DSL. I wanted to keep DSL while waiting for FIOS to become in my area; good thing I didn't as it is now 2007 and FIOS doesn't seem like it will be available in my neighborhood anytime soon. I had been using DSL for 1 1/2 years and before that I was using MSN dial up. I had recently purchased a new desktop and I mistakenly disconnected my DSL service and wanted to reconnect. I had so many issues w/customer service losing my order, delays with installation. I received the new modem in the mail; however, the service was still not available yet. It was the week before Thanksgiving and I received a voicemail message from James Earl Jones (recorded message), LOL, spokesman for Verizon at the time telling me that my service would be further delayed. This has been going on for approximately one month.WELL, I lost it!!!! Don't mess around w/an internet junkie's service. The next day I was cursing them out, why, why, why. I can have cable internet service installed in one day (I told them), why do I need to put up with this crap. They, of course, had a "no care" attitude and I cancelled my service. Then I get a message a day or two after that saying the service was available, insane and it was too late. I called RR and ordered their "d'best Package" which included additional cable TV channels and a promotional monthly price of 29.99 for 6 months. I went down to the 23rd Street customer service center to pick up a modem (some weird RCA small modem) after work and installed RR that evening. Customer service, as always leaves little to be desired, had no knowledge of how to install service (NYC CSR's) and one person hung up on me!!! Kept calling until I got someone from Canada somewhere whom were actually more knowledgeable and helpful and finally got me up and running.

Originally, RR speeds were a 3 megs, then they upgraded us to 5 megs because Verizon DSL moved up to 3 megs originally was at 1.5. Then there was the recent speed increase of 7 / 512 for NYC; HOWEVER, Brooklyn,Queens, Staten Island, and upstate NY have standard speeds of 10 / 512 for the same price I am paying for 7!!!! :-(. I barely make speeds to 6800's, once I was up to 6901, whooo hooooo. I refuse to pay 82.95 for premium service of 10 / 768 (almost double the price for 3 additional megs) when everyone else is getting it for "free". I pay 129.95 per month for RR, phone, and TV (excluding taxes and fees).

Service is always on, sometimes a little slow due to internet traffic and such. I had an outage once which lasted all but 5 minutes. For some reason the TV and RR went out at the same time but was quickly restored and that was only a few months ago. I DO like my little "nyc" email address although I don't rely on it as my only email. I hate that it changes when you move, I moved a few blocks away and had to call and get a new email address and this is after discovering on my own that it no longer worked.

If Optimum Online was available in my area I would subscribe to their service as their speeds are higher and their voice service are less expensive w/more features.
