I had AT&T/Yahoo DSL for over 2 years, and the fastest download speed I could get was 2.2MB with the "Pro" package. Upload speed was fine. After they raised their prices $5 per month to $30 for the Pro package, I decided to switch to Roadrunner.

They mailed me the self-install package fast and it was easy to install. But both my Time-Warner Cable TV stopped working and my Internet wasn't working when I hooked everything up. I called Tech Support and they got both things working pretty fast. However, I use Outlook Express (I'm old school), and their website gave the incorrect server names to set up my email account. The Tech Support guy finally figured that out and now it works fine. I'm not too happy with their web-based email, for it is still set up in the old Adelphia style, and could definitely use an upgrade.

The one problem. I signed up for their "Turbo" package, which is 10MB Down and 1MB Up. They charge $54.95 per month for this package, but since I have their Cable TV, the gave it to me at $44.95 for the first year. However, when I did a speed test, I was only getting 7.8MB down and 485KB Up. Tech Support told me that since it is cable Internet and is shared, my speed would vary, and I would not always get the top speed. So I tried it at 3am and got the same results (not many people on at 3am). I finally talked to Tier 3 Tech Support and the guy was pretty cool and admitted that in my area of Los Angeles, which used to be serviced by Adelphia, they have not yet upgraded all of the hardware to get the advertised "Turbo" speed. That could happen at any time, in a month, in 3 months, 6 months or up to a year. So, when I was sold the "Turbo" package, they pulled a little "bait and switch" on me. I'll wait for now since there is no contract and see what happens. I really wanted that faster upload speed.

    7.8Mbits Lucky you

I did the exact same thing for all the same reasons!

the only difference is that you get 7.8Mbits during peak hours and I get somewhere in the 500Kbits to 980Kbits range. during peak hours and this has been going on since APR 17 of 08 and still not fixed just runarounds and more call to the helpdesk and level 3 more times than I can count
You’re lucky you get 7.8Mbits after all it says at the bottom of Time warmers page for Roadrunner.

**Up to 8.0 Mbps is based on the speed from the local facility to your cable modem. Actual throughput speeds may vary.

    Re: 7.8Mbits Lucky you

I guess I am lucky compared to you......I am not getting the speed I am supposed to with the "Turbo" package, but your speed is terrible. I would insist upon a technician to come out and check your whole setup to get you much better speed.....Maybe your modem is bad? Do you have a network? If so, maybe there's a problem with your router setup. I'm sure there is a major problem and it can be fixed. Good luck!

I'm in West Hollywood as well in the 90046 zipcode and I also pay for the "Turbo" 10/1 line. I complained and got a discount because I wasn't getting the advertised speed.

Just like you I was also told it's only a matter of time before we finally get the 10/1 line.

What I don't understand it how at one point I actually was getting 10/1 for about 2 months and then all of a sudden went back down. It looks like they are testing it out so we should see the speed bump very soon.

Check so see that you do not have the older modem.....The older modem will not give you the good speeds, even during the upgrade.
