My line is business class RoadRunner. Max speed is 10mbit/1.5mbit with 1 static IP. Extra static IP's cost $10/month.
Installation took most of a day due to a) the box in my front yard being dead and b) the static IP that I was assigned had no routing. Once those issues were corrected, I was able to set up my firewall and servers.
Since then, I notice that download speeds in the evening usually drop to 3-4 megabit. Speeds usually stay there until 2 or 3 in the morning.
11/4/2008 - Well, it took some time and some fighting to get them to wake up, but it appears that my node has finally been split. I no longer have packet loss or slow downs in the evenings. Speeds are steady. If you have similar problems, I recommend you keep documentation of who you talk to, and push to get a supervisor involved. Keep at it and call them every day. And, if you have the ability, set up software like PingPlotter or SmokePing to show the degradation as it happens, and email them the charts.
3/6/2009 - Another quick update. Had another hiccup with service. Started getting disconnects every 30-40 minutes which really played havoc with my VPN connection I use for work, and things like AIM, Yahoo IM, etc. This was solved more quickly than my last problem. Had 2 guys visit and tell me signals were not right on transmit side. Line tech came out and fixed levels. Still had problems. Finally talked to 3rd level support tech who stayed on phone with me for a couple of hours to track problem. He could see the disconnects happen because I'd queue up a large download and he would wait for the disconnect. At his suggestion I did full diagnostics on my firewall, including replacing NICs and going back to an older version of PFSense. Still got disconnected.
He finally agreed to have my modem replaced, and that ended up being the problem. The Ambit modem I had was an older model and it was replaced with a newer one. All has been well since then.
2/8/2010 - No issues over the past year. Although from time to time in the evenings I do see slowdowns, although not bad enough to make a lot of noise over. I'm still mostly unimpressed by their support. I think they should put people on Broadbandreports.com like AT&T does. But, they probably won't
10/5.2010 - OK, so I'm updating again.. No major changes. Just some irritations that guarantee that I'll switch as soon as something better comes along. From time to time, RoadRunner does maintenance at night. I completely understand the need to do maintenance. However, it would really be nice if there was a way to send email updates (especially to us business class subscribers) informing us of any potential outages due to maintenance. I do most of my work after midnight. Right in the target time for maintenance. Again, an email would be nice. And that crappy website that supposedly lists network status is junk. If you're gonna have it, update it and use it properly.
Second gripe is DOCSIS 3. Those of us on the business class side of things would really like to have it. You're already rolling it out to residential, so why not us?
Third gripe is this garbage about metered billing. Give it up already. I've seen your 10K reports online. You've already seen a massive ROI on your investments. Isn't it time to cut your customers a break?
4/6/2011 - Another year.. DOCSIS 3 is available to residential subscribers but not business class.. If I didn't need a static IP, I'd be on the residential side. The business class side is stupid.. Teleworker line 10 down/1.5 up for $60 a month. Then the first step above that is 20/2, but costs $300 a month.. Way to plan things out..
I just have RR because I hate AT&T more than I hate TW at the moment. If someone (anyone) would deploy fiber around here, I'd be gone so fast I'd leave a hole in the air.
9/6/2011 - So, I renewed my contract for another year in June. Since then, my billing is all messed up. The bill I got this weekend says I owe $140 even though I've paid all months on time and in the proper amounts. I've talked to billing and my account rep multiple times and everyone assures me that it will be taken care of. I'm just waiting to be disconnected. I'm really getting sick of this crap. I really wish someone out there offered something decent that didn't require dealing with AT&T or Time Warner.
9/21/2011 - So, it appears that it took almost 2 months and numerous phone calls to multiple people to get my billing problem corrected. In all, I received exactly ONE phone call from someone at TW. I had to chase the entire thing down, pester people and be a royal pain to get it fixed. If there was anyone else in the Dayton area besides TW and AT&T, I'd be switched over in a heartbeat.
5/21/2012 - I'm at contract renewal time again and Time Warner has stagnated.
No speed improvements for business class.. Wideband is offered only for residential, which does not offer static IP's. In addition, there has been a packet loss issue in my area for 3 weeks now.
I've looked at Uverse, and they now offer static IPs. My one concern is bandwidth caps. If they don't cap business class, I'm gone. TW can kiss me goodbye.
12/23/2012 - Very little has changed with TW. Business class speeds are not increasing, unless you want to pay $300 a month. I haven't renewed my contract because of the 3 month long billing screwup the last time I renewed. speed is still 10mbit download and 1.5mbit upload. Can't get 30/5 or 50/5 on business class. Have to get that from residential side, where they will most likely start caps some time in the next few years. I hate both TW and AT&T with a passion. I'd go somewhere else if I could.
7/19/2013 Well, I just renewed for another year and I'm not looking forward to it.
I'm still stuck at the same speed I've been at now for the last 5 years. At least the price hasn't changed. Hopefully billing will get things right this time. I'd really like to see some bandwidth improvements. Maybe some changes to the teleworker package. I doubt it though. They're too interested in preserving their cable tv revenue stream. I wish Google or Verizon would deploy fiber here, but that will never happen

| | | | | Re: Curious I wonder if its the same in the Kansas City market?
The web page doesn't give prices. On this forum users in different area's have much different prices.
Some as high as 200+ dollars per month something similar to yours.

| Re: Curious Yes.. The price and speed varies from market to market. If I want to go up to 20mbit down and 2 mbit up, the price jumps from $65 a month to $299 a month in the Western Ohio region. And, last time I looked, the teleworker package isn't even listed on the website. I just renewed my contract for another year and I'm kind of disappointed. They have no plans to take business class to DOCSIS3, so no 30 or 50 mbit speeds. If I didn't need the static IP, I'd be over to a regular account in an instant. | |

| Re: Saw this thought I should help. I know business class uverse doesnt have caps, but AT&T is convinced that uverse is not available in my house. The search on the website says its not available at my address but it is available 10 houses down the street. I discussed it with someone on the direct forum about a year ago. I also filed a request on the uverse site. So I'm sort of stuck I guess.
I'd also like to add that when I had DSL, you were one of the reasons I stayed as long as I did. You have always been incredibly helpful.
