I was using Verizon Online when I got a letter in the mail that Optimum Online was now available in my town. I had Verizon for almost a year with no install problems and only two outages (one the entire State of NJ was down), but decided to check it out since it was $10.00 less then I was paying and with one month free I could decide which one to keep. Verizons slow up and down was also a factor in trying OOL. Ordered online and they said modem would arrive in 5 or 6 days (it actually shipped from the WIZ Wharehouse in Elizabeth NJ and I got it the next day) plugged it in and it would not sync. Called support and they said a filter needed to be removed from my line. Came home from work the next day and the modem was synced up. I attached my linksys router re-configured the setup from what it was from Verizon and was online and surfing in 5 minutes. Tweeked the settings for the faster connection and never looked back. Did not wait the month to cancel Verizon. I did it the next day. Had one extended outage that was caused by my modem and it was replaced by OOL no major problems since. Mail servers were a problem but that has been better lately. If you can get it get it you won't be sorry.

July 2007 After problems with SunRocket I now have OV as well. So far everthing is working great. Received the voice modem in the mail, hooked it up, replaced the modem on my account, activated the OV part and bingo online and voice working great. Hardest part will be returning the old modem. Everything should be this easy.

    Horrible

OOL is bad at fixing problems and even if your getting half of the advertised speeds its ok with them and they never see and issue. They over sell the nodes so there CEO can make 25 million again this year while we get crap service.

Move to Fios and show OOL they have to fix there game

    Re: Horrible

FIOS will not go to an apartment, and OOL is still faster. I've had OOL for 3 years with little to no problems whatsoever. I had Verizon DSL twice and the service was horrible. Never, ever will I use Verizon for anything. Horrible tech support (dummy, I've rebooted my machine 20000 times, I don't need to do it again) and customer service is even worse. Verizon sucks.

    Re: Horrible

I had Verizon DSL and it was everything they said it would be. I had the 3.768 package and i got over 3000 down and about 720 up but they messed up billing and i see they still do. With DSL if you are too far it will be bad as i found out they added a coil on my line making it go from 5600 feet to 0ver 11000 and thats why i switched because it got bad but if your close it is very stable and consistent.

As for Fios i have played with it and it is way faster and more stable than OOL but comes with less features. I could use the features from OOL but i like a more consistent connection and OOL is not stable at all in my area but maybe it is where you live. My Boost is supposed to be 30/5 but its 18/4 anytime of day and my friends Fios is 20/5 and he get 20/4.5 anytime of day.

Sorry but OOL is only good in areas that are not on oversold nodes and the only way we will see who is better is when Fios get alot more customers and that will take a while but for now Fios is the better connection but OOL beats it in features.
