I have had optimum online since 4/98. It has steadily gotten better since then. The new fiber optic cable installed in 2000 plus my new computer with windows XP have given me 8000 + KB/s downloads off of Speakeasy. I have had very few service outages (under 5) in five years.
Since 6/03 the Speakeasy speeds are down to about 7200. OOL speed test is around 1.02 meg/sec
3/29/04--has been erratic at times with slow speeds (1500kbps) and unexplained modem disconnects. Speeds on OOL ftp are down to just under 1 meg/sec.
10/16/04-as more people go on my node my ftp speeds have slipped to around 940.
4/17/2005-I have to down grade my opinion of OptimumOnline. When every one comes home from work or on weekends (They seem to have overloaded this node)my OOL ftp speeds go down around 500..I was spoiled by the over 1 meg speeds of over a year ago.
11/08/05-I have got to hand it to CV, they have put me right back to where I was at before the slow downs. OOL ftp downloading at 1.10MB/PS during non peak hours and over 1.03 peak. It hasn't gone down in I can't remember when. I would say that they are delivering all that they promised and then some....I rate them GOLD.
04/10/2007-The service I pay for is 15000/2. I routinely beat the 15000..in the neighborhood of 16000 to 18000. I get 1.79MB on the OOL download test. The upload speed is another thing entirely. I have never gotten what I am supposed to get. Currently, I get about 1700 to 1850.
6/26/08-Not much new to add. My speeds are back down to the advertised max, i.e. my OOL download test shows 1.5MB on average.
7/24/09- Optonline is still a very reliable and fast ISP. OOl download tested a few minutes ago showed 1.54MB.
