Online order submitted+confirmed on March 23, for self-install- first 3 Mos. @ $19.95mo,(w/family cable package, or better) then $45/mo. Month to month no-contract, free Surfboard SB4200 modem w/lifetime free replacement, Promotion includes $50.00 EE US Savings Bond. Install kit Shipping in 5 or so, days.
Called CS on April 4, for order / shipping status, and the run-around began. Wound up in a loop of sales-to-tech-to-billing-to-sales, got disconnected,
DO OVER.
Finally, after another chain of hold/transfer/hold/transfer, I was told the install kits are back-ordered, and will not be shipping for at least two weeks.
Unacceptable.
My local Cablevision office is 5 minutes away, so I hop on over, and walk out 5 minutes later with a brand new modem and install kit.
Hooked up the modem, and, BAM. Connection ROCKS!
Tweaked a few settings and clocked 8869kbps down / 945 kbps up.
1.2 MBs data transfer. Pings in the single digits/ low teens.

Speeds almost always at peak, very few service outages.

12/2004 My tune is changing for the worse: nightly speed slowdowns are common. Speeds can reach all the way down to dial up. Too many customers on causing Too much traffic for them.

The problems in my area have been fixed for a while now, since a couple of weeks after thanksgiving, actually, and all is good again.(in that respect) Upload speeds are consistently in the low 900's, downloads remain between 7000 and 9000 depending on the time of day. I can live with that.
Ping times to the gateway are consistently in the low teens, almost all of the time.
Apparently the network traffic at the headend CMTS was reconfigured for my area and the problem went away as a result. I often wondered how many other people complained, or if they even noticed...Traffic monitoring is not my favorite pass-time.
I want to say a big Thanks! to E88, and others at CV who worked with me (and on the network) and for resolving my speed complaint issue back in December.

System speed upgrade to 15/2 has been implemented for my area.
I consistently get the upstream, but peak at 12 -13 down.
It could be my router limiting download, but don't care enough to pull it out to test. :-P
System Uptime / reliability has been outstanding.
Download speed slowdown issues occur sometimes during peak hours.

FiOS is here. I returned the SB4200.
It was a fairly good run, CV. The Service uptime was very good.

An enticing winback offer I couldn't refuse, and continuing escalating Verizon prices has brought me back to cable.
I'm getting a significant discount on phone and internet service, saving me a bundle.
OOl and OV are now up and running.
Let the savings begin.
