    I've had Optimum Online since January of 2002 and I'm still extremely pleased with it over 6 years later. I find my speeds of 16.5Mbit/2Mbit rock solid, and I ping roughly 10ms to NYC with no packet loss.

    The solid speeds and the low pings never fluctuate; they're always there. I can't remember a time when I've gotten poor downstream or upstream speeds, packet loss, or high pings.

    Downloads max out at around 1.84MBytes/sec, and uploads max out at around 236KBytes/sec. These downstream speeds are easily obtained from any decently fast webserver. The same rule applies to uploading.

    When playing CS, I can ping a stable 10ms or 12ms from Connecticut to NYC, with 0 packet loss.

    OOL's best selling point is the speed, followed by the pings.

    The mail servers are also very stable, and I've never had an issue with them. I personally don't use newsgroups so I can't comment on them.

    I've never been capped, but I can't really consider myself an excessive uploader either. Optimum Online doesn't permit you to run a server, but I would never do so from a residential internet connection anyway. The port block and banning of servers in the ToS have minimal effect on me.

    Overall, I'm very happy with my OOL service. I've probably had very near 100% uptime in these 6+ years I've been a customer. It blows away the much slower AT&T DSL that is available in my area. I love Optimum Online.

    ???????

    If you have 15/2 why is it... " I can download in excess of 1.7MB/sec, and upload in excess of 230KB/sec " That doesnt make too much sense.

    With my "SLOW" AT&T in CT , Im downloading at 5000kb and 610 up.

    5000kbps=625KBps=0.6MB/s

    610Kbps=76KBps

    AT&T DSL is much slower. I find that I like it due to the price.

    Re: ???????

    Sorry, but thats incredibly slow for a cable modem (1500kb/200kb ) My ATT DSL for $24 a month is ( 5000 kb/610 kb )

    These days when cable modem customers type 15/2 thats in Megabits/sec

    @rr.com

    are you for real or id10t error applies to you

    @15 mbps= about 1.875 MB thats 3 times faster then 5 mbps ATT
    so if he has only OOL without phone and TV and paying $50 he is getting 1.58 times value of ATT. and if he orders Boost for $15 extra, he will be paying $65 but with speeds of 30 megs that is 6 times as fast as ATT. so with ATT you pay $ 5 per mbps with OOL and boosts thats 2.17 per mbps without boost 3.16 still cheaper than with ATT. I can only wish I was back in Brooklyn getting OOL speeds. I have RR here in SI and max out @ 7.
