Ordered at under 30 a month, that lasted for over 2 years which was a bargain. 44.95 seems to be the going rate for RR and other cable modem companies who don't have even half of the speed capabilities. I am unable to aquire VOL and personally wouldn't want it due to the much slower speeds.
Upload capping without a "figure" I feel is wrong, I upload photos pictures to family as well as hobby pictures of my labrador retrievers to people looking for a puppy constantly. I don't use P2P although I do use AOL groups and lists for some graphics and other items (more download than upload). I wish I did know what the upload max was but I have not been capped yet (knock on wood) with 3 computers sharing a connection.
I don't use newgroups at this time so I can't complain about them. My e-mail is rarely problematic, once in a blue moon. (That changed with time)
Overall I find OOL great for my purposes (That changed too). I feel the MVM's (and others) help on dslreports makes things a lot easier for all of us, tech support is less than ok but the MVM's are donating their time and doing a better job IMHO.
My speeds normal ran in the 8000's on the down and 800s on the up, that changed too

Just started my Mom on OOL 2 weeks ago in a different town, single computer SB5100, without tweaking she was 9500/950 plus after I installed
Down to the mid to the high 7000's on the download, a few times lower. As for the post below me, FIOS is still not here and I can't even answer your reply its that old :O I would consider it possibly AFTER I see how everyone else does Overall, OOL is one of THE fastest around :::shrug::::
Slower and slower and outages, no help from tech support. Looking into FIOS, waiting for it to roll out
Switched to FIOS, OOL was giving me grief (slowdowns and outages) so see ya!
Still on FiOS (over 2 years as my ISP, under 1 year for TV, very happy with it except for their Billing Department. If I have control of it I will always be on FiOS and never deal with another cable company like CV again. Working on getting my Mom into FiOS too, they recently went livei in her mid rise building
