Optimum Online is a great service to the average user. However, if you consider your knowledge in computers and the other IT related fields above avaerage then you may consider the service up to par. Installation occured 14 days after ordering over the phone. At this point in time I have no issues with regards to the cost of the service. Afterall Optimum Online is the only broadband provider in my town. However, considering the standard of living in my area I would like to see a lower speed, lower cost tier service introduced for those who cannot afford the regular, non-promotional pricing of the service.
Tech Support has quite a lot of improving to do. As I see it I feel their only good use is for the consumer who has very little to no IT knowledge. Specifically, for requesting that a user reboot their cable modem, router, flush the cache of their Internet browser, and restart their computer. This is where my "Scripted Tech Support" from above stems from. If you do have average or above average IT knowledge you may feel that something is lacking from Tech Support. I urge you though not to engage in verbal abuse with the person on the other end of the phone. From observing and engaging in the user forum here on DSLR you may be better served by reading the postings. That is of course your able to get online in the first place. I very much like the ability to contact the unofficial Optimum Online Direct forum here if I needed help. Which I have before and as someone with Intermediate-Advanced IT knowledge prefer it that way. I was trying to understand the error messages from my cable modem and telephone Tech Support was of no good use insisting that I ignore the error messages if I haven't noticed a degrade in service.
Bottom line is that I like the service. However, I wish Optimum Online provided more technical information for problems over the phone for those of us who would like it.

And yes, they are scripted. They don't care about fixing problems, all they care about is their quality score and their call numbers. That's what they get paid for. CV pays alot of money, but demands total obedience.
Well, not was. Still am. But don't care anymore. I'm about to be out of a job anyways. I actually care about fixing people's problems. All CV cares about is the "happy happy joy joy" feeling. | |
