We have no other options for high speed here, so we're captives.
We have regular Optonline, with iO and Opt Voice
Intermittent low signal associated problems, ongoing since 2002. Not resolved.

Update Dec 2008: Outside techs did spend several concurrent months this year, and for the most part it does now work. Video dropouts rare, but internet and phone still occasionally dropout just long enough to lose your conversation or your download. It is better than previously. It just seems that for the money, it should be nearly flawless.

Update Aug 2009: nothing new to report, other than rate increases.

    Cablevision has dropped the ball

We used to have fast service all the time. About a month and a half ago, I got yet another spam call from Cablevision trying ot sell me the triple play. I told the woman right away I was not interested in their phone service. She insisted that I tell her why, to which I responded it wasn't any of her business. So about a week or so ago, the internet service simply stopped in the middle of the day. I got them right on the phone, and the person on their end seemed puzzled. He explained that it appeared that we didn't have internet service. Now, I never canceled the service, and at this point I was sure this had something to do with the rude woman trying to sell me something I didn't want. There is no doubt in my mind that she spitefully had the internet service canceled because of what I said to her on the phone.

So, the guy on the other end of the line handled getting the internet service going again, which only wasted a half hour of my time. However, ever since they hooked me back up, the line speed during evening hours is no better than dial up. It's fine during the middle of the night and mostly during the day, but between 5 PM and 12 AM, it is very slow. I have called several times to complain about this, but all I get is script reading fools who don't know what they are doing. They insist it isn't them, but MY router. Now, I sometimes work as a network engineer, and I have thoroughly tested my in house system, and it is working exactly the same way it has been for the last 5 years, but you can't truly explain that to a moron who can only read from a script. I am fed up with Cablevision. I'm seriously thinking about going with Speakeasy at this point, even though it's slightly more expensive.
