I recently moved, and went from FIOS to OOL. I figured the worst and braced myself for such. I was pleasantly surprised. While I still thinkin FIOS is better; the difference would not be noticed by many. For the most part, I get very consistent and solid speeds with OOL. I've had no downtime in the 2 months I've had it. Of course I can only speak for OOL and not the TV or Voice. Perhaps I am just lucky to be in an area that does not have a saturated node. Either way, it was OOL or Verizon DSL and I could not deal with having to go back to 768/128, so I took a gamble with OOL and it paid off.
The install was painless. The tech came over, hooked up the cable wires, setup the modem and tested it on my main computer. It was pretty routine from what I gather. If FIOS were to come along now...I would honestly think twice about switching back to it because what I have now works.
