Being an employee, I get it free, though it was still worth the $44.95 for the basic. I've only used the BOOST for a limited time to look for improvement in a PC game, but the internet connection was not holding me back, so I downgraded. The house was wired before-hand by an electrician in the family, so I know the internal wiring is sound, and therefore I did a self-install. When I later added the OV service, I did another self install (due to the poor placement of phone jacks, I needed to use a satellite phone). When I started, I was given a Motorola SB3100, which I later updated to the SBV5120. I'd definitely recommend the Motorola brand of modems if given the choice (though, I never dealt with the newest Webstar, DPC2203C first-hand). I had no strong memories either way with the service (since everything worked, there was no time to let them prove themselves), but my first-hand negatives would be any time I had to wait at the CV stores for 30 minutes, and the poor installation a friend of mine had, with the signals to all equipment out of range. I was able to help him & note the ticket for his return visit to get the process taken care of quickly.
Areas for improvement would be getting a better security software brand, IMAP email support, package for static-IP on residential accounts, and more speed tiers (possibly a watered-down version for people who don't have a PC but use the VoIP phone until a package is offered for OV-only, as well as plans with higher uploading). Despite this, the service is excellent, and outside of 3 area-wide service outages, I have never had a problem with it over the 9 or so years I've been a member. I'm biased when I say this part, but the tech support is overall a solid group. The basic plan has speeds that are above many other companies' top-tier plans for the price of a basic plan.
Since this is an OOL review, I've tried to steer clear of any IO/OV discussion.
