Aside from the equipment, it is pretty good.
Scientific Atlanta SD8300 is a worthless piece of junk! On-Demand slow, useless.
Definitely worth the money.

1-9-2009 - UPDATE - While I moved again 3 years ago, our cable service was recently transitioned to a different Comcast system (from Frederick County MD to Carroll County MD). My primary gripe about the transition was the requirement that we use a Scientific Atlanta SD8300 converter box. This box is worth less than warm dog excrement. We're on our 2nd box since the hard disk in the first box broke. I had a very hard time getting the new box to retain 720p output as well. One upside of this transition was that we got On-Demand back (we lost it when we moved here) but it is so slow and clunky now that we never bother using it. It just isn't convenient. Waiting a minute or 2 for the menus to change is silly and pointless.

8-10-2003 - UPDATE - I moved! Naturally the first thing I wanted to get going was my Internet connection. Although it is working now as well as it did in my previous residence, the installation was a bit bumpier than before. When I had the cable TV set up, I went to Best Buy and bought a Motorola Surfboatd SB5100 cable modem (along with the $20 a month for 6 months and slew of rebates and such). I hooked everything up but nothing! I called Comcast and spoke to several technicians who were very knowledgable and helpful, but they could not fix the problem from their end. They sent out a tech a week later (on a weekend no less!) and fixed the problem in a few minutes. Turns out there was some kind of filter on my line which killed the connection. However, everything is working well now and I am very happy still with them. Going a week without an internet connection was not too bad as I still had access at work that I could use in the meantime.

I didn't even bother to get a landline phone. Maybe I am petty and vindictive, but for many years Verizon refused to provide me with DSL service because they didn't want to upgrade my old phone line to handle it. I don't feel like spending more money than needed so I "cut the cord" with them.

3-23-2002 - UPDATE - Comcast raised upload speed from 128kbps to 256kbps! Same reliability and speed on the download side as before.

I've had Comcast high speed internet since 4/02 and I am quite satisfied with them. Although I do complain that it took awhile for them to wire up my area, I am grateful that they got things set up relatively quickly after they bought out Suburban Cable, which told us cable modems would not be available till 2006-2008.

Getting things set up and running took about 30 minutes with them on the phone. The techs I dealt with knew what they were doing and there were no hassles. However, I had bought my own cable modem, so I cannot speak for anyone who had to order it through them. As far as broadband goes, they are the only game in town in my part of the country. So far there was only one outage on their end, and it was fixed promptly. Overall, I think they are definitly worth a try, even if you have an alternative choice.

About 1.1Mbps down and 120kbps up on weekends.
About 1Mbps down and 100kbps up at night.
I haven't been able to test speeds during the day in the middle of the week however.

Re: He must work for Comcast.

Hell, I switch to comcast from Bellsouth because I moved and Bellsouth did not have DSL at my new Address but as much as I did love bellsouth I will have to say that comcast is doing a hell of a good job, my speeds are 2+ down and 300 up any time, any day!
