Update 10/23/2007
Still using Comcast and have rock solid speeds. The price is higher now. I don't use their TV service, but I do use CDV. Happy with both services.
Update 7/16/2004
Well, I am back with Comcast. After much rangling with Earthlink and Comcast over my speeds on Earthlink Cable Modem service Powerd by Comcast (see below for 3/1/2004 EL review), I gave up and came back. I got the multiple blame game back and forth.
Anyway, I ordered the service from »www.comcastoffers.com. I am considered a new Comcast HSI customer because I was away for more than 60 days. I got the service for $29.99/mo for 6 months and then it goes up to $52.95 ($10 more for a non-cableTV sub) which is $7 more per month than I was paying Earthlink. I was live with Comcast that night after a quick call to tech support.
I am more unbundled now than ever: TV = DirecTV HSI = Comcast Phone = Qwest
One big complaint that I have is Comcast's Newsgroup service through giganews. 1 meesly GB per month. Blah... I became addicted to newsgroups when I was with EL. You could get 5GB per month, per email address on the account. You could have 8 email accounts which = 40GB/mo. Anyway, I now pay for an unlimited download newsgroup service through »newshosting.com (Thanks, neutral!) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Update 3/1/2004
Well guess what... My speeds went from 3Mbps with Comcast to 1.8Mbps with EL powered by Comcast. I call and ask what the deal is and they say I should have never had that speed once I switched over (which I had for about 4 days). I say to them that EL's website advertises 3Mbps. They respond with "not over Comcast's lines" and give me this website to check »www.earthlink.net/home/broadband···t/speed/
Anyway, my service is still rock solid. Just a little angry about being lied to. Therefore that is why I changed my ratings. They buried that site way down. I think I may lodge a complaint with the local BBB. I still will not change back to Comcast. The $10 increase put a bad taste in my mouth and 3Mbps is not worth a $10 increase. BTW, they the rep claimed that EL powered by comcast customers will eventually get the speed upgrade.

I dropped Comcast's HSI because they jacked my internet rate up $10/mo because they claim that I'm not "bundled." I have internet and phone service through comcast and I would consider that "bundled" enough, wouldn't you? Overall, I was very happy with Comcast. My service has always run well and never had any major issues.
Anyway, repeated calls to both their phone and internet CS reps (they are separate) to zero satisfaction. So, I say fine, I guess I will be looking to get service elsewhere. They say OK go ahead.
Anyway, I just signed up for earthlink cable modem service on the morning of 2/24/04 and was up and running on the service by the afternoon. Plan is $19.95/mo for 1st 3 months and $45.95 after, which is still $7/mo cheaper than comcast. I did not experience any service interruption and when they called they walked me through changing a few setting and voila! The service is just as rock solid (since the HSI is provided by Comcast and my ISP is Earthlink) as before.
I know my situation is not normal. Already being a Comcast HSI subscriber, all they had to do was a swap over. Comcast let me go for a $10 dispute. Oh, well. Oh, and I know that Comcast is getting their cut on my service, but they are not getting the full amount any longer.
Now I am paying 3 separate bills: TV = DirecTV Phone = Comcast (still cheaper than Qwest) HSI = Earthlink (Just as rock solid as my previous experience - why would it change?)

Originally, I had finally made the switch from AOL to ATTBI. Had to notify all of my family and friends of that address change. Now its from ATTBI to Comcast. Oh well, at least I haven't had to go through as many as some others have.
When I was orginally installed (ATTBI), the tech came and installed everything (had a coupon for free premium install). From that day forward, I have had zero problems with my connections or speed. I am always at or near the caps.
I am still waiting to see what the price is going to be with the new bundled pricing. I have DirecTV (so no cable tv), but I have the internet service and the digital phone service. I have yet to have a price increase for not having the internet & cable tv bundle. I guess I will continue to wait and see if there will be one. There is no information on the website if you have a particular bundle like mine.
If my price does go up, I will probably switch to Earthlink over cable. Earthlink cable internet is available where I live and it will still be less expensive than the full price Comcast internet. I just hope that this does not happen (ANOTHER email change, ugghhh).
So, all in all, very happy with the service. Just hope to see no price increases.
