Got comcast in early January, picked a morning install which I think is from 7 or 8am till 1 or 2, anyway guy gets here at 9am. Ordered comcast digital cable w/hbo and internet, he comes with the digital box and remote, even sets up my remote for my tv, entertainment system, and vcr. Presents me with the internet self-install kit which is what I wanted, I am capable of install myself like alot of us are. Even if you never tried before its real easy and instructions are clear if you need them. In my install kit I got a motorolla SB4200 modem and I already had a router, Netgear RP614
Total install time was about 30 minutes and he was gone, everything worked fine.
5/20/03- I have now had comcast for about 5 months and never had any cable tv outages. I had about 3 total internet outages that I noticed and from those 2 occured late night around 3am and another was around 7pm at night. In april the area seemed to have been upgraded with 256kb upload service and traffic shaping appears to be enabled. I average out around 1600/280.
11/30/03- comcast gets better and better...new 3mb downloads have arrived. Customer service is semi ok in this area and speed/uptime are consistant. way to go comcast!
7/31/04- just last week comcast announced the new 384/4000 speeds in my area. Since my last review service has been rock solid stable and havent had any cable tv outages. I can count the number of internet outages since 11/30/03 on one hand, seems comcast shines on the eastern shore. Dont hesitate to get it if you live here, pure bliss speedwise. Current price i got is $48.95 for basic/expanded cable and $42.95 for comcast basic internet, 256/3000. All together my bills are around $82 a month.
2/25/05- Still running smooth on comcast. Decided to upgrade to their newest speed tier for an extra $10/month. Now connecting to the internet at 768/6000 speeds. VERY NICE!!! I didnt think at first I had the new speeds after doing speed tests and seeing poor results. But in some of my real-world tests like ftping data, i have hit the limits on both sides. Cable still doing good, only using the basic + extended channels package. Total bill cost now is $117.45. I was also upgraded to a Motorola SB5100 sometime within the past year, cant remember exactly when though.
9/20/05- Moved to the ghetto, but still with comcast. I used to have the real high speed, was like 6mb down and 768kb up. I downgraded to the 4mb down / 384kb up package to get the 19.99 promotion (got it when I moved). Heres what I got all together right now
Showtime 6month special = $0
Starz 3month special = $0
Partial month usage charge = $3.32 (added hdtv in the middle of previous month)
Standard Service (Basic and Expanded cable) = $50.90
Digital Bronze-HBO = $11.00 (this is just the cost of HBO)
Comcast Internet (4mb down 384kb up) = $19.95 (promotion)
Internet Modem (havent bought mine yet, got a motorola SB5100) = $3.00
HDTV = $5.00
Digital A/O Package = $9.90 (cost of digital cable)
Digital Sports Tier = $4.95 (going to drop this, thought i would get more games)
TOAL= $108.02 before taxes
The internet service has been very solid. Only about 3 total outages not related to weather/damaged lines since last review and they have all been very short (under 12 hours). Good pings to many game servers and the web in general, everything is very speedy. I got a roomate so the cost doesnt bother me, I just split it.
08/20/07- Finally moved out of the ghetto, in the same city. Of course I hooked up with Comcast at my new place and its still been clear sailing service-wise. No major outages at all. My bill did get pretty high at one point, I got the 8mb down / 768kb up tier and with digital cable + hd dvr + cinemax, my bill was somewhere around $160 a month! I called in asking about any good deals and now I got all that + showtime / starz / hbo and my bill was lowered to $102 a month!
Anyways thats my only gripes with Comcast at this point are high price and long hold times for Customer Service, IF YOU USE THEIR NATIONAL NUMBERS. I have had much better luck with Customer Service by calling the phone # on my bill.
03/16/08- Still at the same location where my 08/20/07 review was made. Still have the same package for about $102 a month with the 768/8000mb broadband. It's pretty crazy how much things have changed since my first review on 5/20/03.
Service has been rock solid cable-tv wise. Internet has been mostly stable, although I have had 3 weird "outages" where only a few particular sites weren't working. So it wasn't a complete loss of service, just some routing issues I am guessing. Comcast is solid and stable in Salisbury and is really the only option besides sub-par DSL from verizon.
04/01/09- Same place (although moving this week, more on that later), same package features but my deal went out and my bill is around $181/m now. I am moving about 1/4m away but there is some issue where they try to transfer or open a new account at my new house and get a "account code error". Contacted them this past Monday and currently still no resolution tonight.
Anyways you can call the above a customer service complaint for this review. One change I did forget to mention is the premium internet tier is currently 2mb up and 16mb down (powerboost) so technically 2/8000. The upload has been boosted.
