I had DSL for nearly 4 years and was having problems from the start. First installation, then speed due to poor lines and increasing line distance from CO. When Comcast finally finished installing all new digital cables in my neighborhood the service became a viable option for me to try out. Their "deal" here was for three months at $19.99/month, then regular price thereafter with no commitment at any time. I figured I couldn't go wrong giving it a try!

I called and ordered on a Monday and they came to install on a Thursday. The installer called just as they told me he would when he was nearby to my house. He was close to the end of the 4 hour time window but within. My house is wired totally for satellite so there was no cable run at all from the box outside into my house. The installer found the box, put in the filters, drilled a hole to run cable in and had the computer up and online in about 1 hour. No problems and no issues. I didn't need any software with Windows XP and he brought the RCA modem with him (renting for $3/month). Installation was free. I was able to access the comcast site and change my password and email address shortly after he installed. I am very satisfied with everything and as an added bonus, Miami was one of the first markets to get the speed increase!! My first speeds were over 1700 kbps and now they are between 3300 kbps and 3400 kbps!! That's some increase over the paltry DSL speeds I was getting that fell from 700 kbps at the peak of my service to 200 kbps when I finally switched to Comcast cable.

Overall I am very happy!! The only negative I find is that the folks who get cable tv get a price break and those with satellite don't. I asked about their basic cable and was surprised to find out their cheapest deal is for $45 a month....I've had satellite a long time and pay only $40 a month so I can see why they have trouble keeping people on cable tv plans. (Whatever happened to the $9.95 basic cable??) I surely don't mind paying $60 for all that extra speed I am getting though!!

For me Comcast has been the answer when DSL just wouldn't work any longer. Nice steady speed and no problems!

Update: I'm still with Comcast and am overall happy. Sometimes my speed varies but generally its good. I wouldn't mind upgrading to a faster tier but I'm not so sure my speed would actually increase (but the price would) so I'm staying with my midlevel speed. They've made a lot of speed changes but I find they don't keep me in the information "loop" so I really have no idea what I actually am slotted for now. I believe I was put on the 7000/384 when they implemented the tier pricing. U-verse had just started selling in my area but I have not heard good things about them and since everything is working with comcast I am sticking with them.
