Connection benchmarks around 3200kbps down and around 258kbps up depending on the traffic out there ofcourse. Gotta deal for $19.99 for 6 months, not only that they gave me the entire HBO channel package to boot.
Installation took a little bit longer than average due me living in an apartment building. The installer couldnt get a strong enough signal at first but after taking my cable line off the connection box outside and connecting directly to main box in the center of the complex, the signal became much stronger than above what was even needed
The modem that was given to me to lease was brand new and not even out of the box yet. However this wasnt thier usual Motorolla Surfboard modem, this one is a Terayon model# TJ-715X. It works great, does its job, and has no problems but only leasing it until the modem i purchased arrives (I preffer owning my equipment, that way they cannot tell me I cannot tweak it). This connection was even easy to change my router over to comming from DSL to cable.
Only bad experince was the ditz sales rep that didnt bother to setup my account username and password for my e-mail nor my services. However that was easily corrected with a phone call to Comast and was all set to go with in 2 minutes!!!
****[8-18-04]**** My modem has arrived, a D-Link DCM-202 »www.dlink.com/products/?pid=323
Only problem Comcast had in changing over to my new modem from thiers was at the time I had called them the provisioning system was down. The rep said he was going to take lunch then after check to see if provisioning was up again. He called me back but provisioning was still down but that was cool, I just did routine maintainence on all my machines while I waited. About 45mins later the called again to ask me to check if the connection was up again, hurray it was!!!. The minute provisioing came back up he got me up and going again, thumbs up guys!!!
The D-Link modem is excellent, rock solid, and has a nice web interface. The best price I found it for was $62 even with UPS ground shipping included at www.computer3g.com
Comcast for me has still made a great first impression on me, lets hope this will never fade
***6 Month update***
After month 4 I had quite a bit of slow downs for a week straight while Comast was upgrading thier system. I would have tolerated this if tech support would have told me this. Instead they blamed spyware first (all 5 of my systems are sqeeky clean any day of the week), then my router (direct connection to 5 PC's showed the same results), then my modem (they sent 3 truck rolls with a retal modem on each one, replacing the modem showed the same results all 3 times, on all 5 PC's with all 3 tech leaving here with no resoloution and no clue as to what was wrong). To find out what exactly what was wrong it took constant communication in the Comcast forums with local's from my state, the entire thread can be found here : »Slow in west mi
The only thing keeping me with Comcast at this moment is that they extended our $20 a month promo another 3 months. After that I will be back looking into the market deciding wether to hold onto what I have now or jump ship. Kinda nice having 3 cable companies and 12 DSL companies that can provide me access
10/03/2005 Another 6 month update
All is good again, 2 speed upgrades and this time the second one went through without a hitch. Speeds are still consistant however I had to ditch my D-Link modem for a rental. First rental was an RCA DCM-420, this thing would lock up constantly while downloading Knoppix .iso's through Bit Torrent. This was quickly resolved by my local franchise who exchanged it for a Motorola Surf Board 5120 which does the job flawlessly. Another upside these days is that I am still locked in at the $19.95 promo rate and still recieving the upgrades as they come, what a sweet deal!

Still going strong, Power Boost is implemented and now awaiting to see how the speed upgrades go. Currently on my 6/384 tier I am seeing bursts starting at 15mb and throttling down to around 9mb. Let's hope I have more good news in another six months after the speed upgrades take effect.
10/24/2007
Moved 3 cities over and transfering service went off without a hitch. Still with the 6/768 tier with a very stable connection. Power Boost is still working fine though I would like those speed to be sustained.
4/01/2008
Still going good and still going strong. Currently living in a low income area and the service run smoothly both HSI and T.V.
6/24/2008
Early update! Just upgraded to the Blast! tier today and wow what a difference it has made already! The process went very smooth with the support rep and I was up and running with in 5 minutes. I did have to tweak my RWIN but after doing so it's been smooth sailing again!
1/18/2009
Service is still going strong with no complaints there. However a few months back I was sent a letter for a price increase of $10 more a month with no explanation as to why.
7/26/09
Still going without issues. Going to be moving soon so we will see how they are in another area.

1 edit | No Offense With all do respect, I am glad YOU are not having any problems. However, Flash speed tests are NOT accurate as they are subject to higher compression ratios, thus contributing to an illusion of greater speeds particularly on those networks that deploy (certain) network management protocols.
Also the size and time to run most speed tests are generally within the size/time frame of (certain) technologies employed on a network such as 'PowerBoost'. Maybe good for small up to 20MB files. But the truth is, it helps to fortify to the illusion of "Greater Speeds". Thus used heavily in marketing strategies.

| Re: No Offense Never did I say it was accurate, then again I can see you don't bother to read as I mentioned it was only PowerBoost! that was deployed in reference to the screen shot.
I'm not sure what need you have there to feel important but you didn't impress me in the least. You can try to piss all over this review all you want but the fact still remains that at all times of the day I get my full 16/2, which is reliable, stable, and with PowerBoost!. Just as mentioned in my total review. -- "I like to refer to myself as an Adult Film Efficienato." - Stuart Bondek | |
