I had serious issues with my DSL provider and their customer no-service. The week of Christmas, I reached critical mass and disconnected the DSL. I called Comcast on Christmas Eve and they arrived and installed the cable modem the day after Christmas. Other than a period of spotty service due to a bad amplifier in my neighborhood (which they finally located and replaced), the service has been rock solid with minimal outages.
When I have called for customer service or tech support, the phone has been answered in under a minute with a live person who speaks English. The person who answers seems to actually be able to see what is going on with my modem or the service in my neighborhood. I don't get the "reboot your modem and reboot your PC" crap from them no matter what the problem like my DSL provider did.
I continue to be a silent cheerleader for Comcast HSI in my area. I don't have problems very often and the service works reliably. I can count on one hand the number of outages in the past 2 years.
Update as of 2/15/2008
I'm still thrilled with my Comcast HSI. No one in this area can touch the speed or reliability. I've never looked back since dumping DSL. Even as AT&T deploys UVerse in my area, they can't compete with the speed of my current cable modem. I'll keep my Dish Network TV and Comcast HSI regardless.
