I just recently got Comcast, and so far I am not very impressed. The we ordered the highest tier, 6mbps/768kbps and we are only seeing about 3mbps/5kbps average. My cousin was the only one here when they installed it, and she said that after it was installed, she ran a speed test and it was only about half of what we are paying for, so she called tech support. Well, they asked her if she had defragged her HDD, and if she had rebooted recently. Shes not a computer wiz, but even she knew that defragging has nothing to do with how slow the connection is. And since she had already rebooted when they installed it, that obviously wasnt a concern either.

So far I am very disapointed in this service, I would understand if it was only 4.5/500 or so, but our average speed is about at the middle tier offering, and if they cant give us close to the speeds we are subscribing to, then we'll just go back to Bellsouth's slower speeds but good dependability.

The reason I have a question mark by the price is that I'm really not sure, my roomate and my cousin are splitting the bill with me so as far as I'm concerned its only about $20mo.

I will try to update this if/when things change, but as it stands, this is my story and I'm stickin to it.

***UPDATE*** 03/07/05 The techs came out to the house today to see what was up with our download speeds, and sadly, my cousin reports that they suggested she go to www.dslreports.com (suprise) and do the tweak test. Well, of course that was the first thing I tried when we first noticed the download being so much lower than what we are paying for. They then did a speed test from Comcasts own servers and said we ARE getting what we are paying for. My cousin even took a screen shot of the test results to show me when I got home, and sure enough, it said we were getting about 6.4/740. So far the fastest I have seen on any other testing site was about 5.3/650 and it keeps fluctuating. Its usualy in the 4mbps range. If it wasnt for the upload being pretty much what we're paying for, I would tell them to go F@#$ themselves. I really only wanted the high upload, but I am weary that it fluctuates so much. Well, if it was just me using the connection, I would stick with DSL, but alas, my cousin and roomate are both using it and when my roomate and I play SOCOM II online together, the DSL's upload just didnt cut it sometimes. So, for all of you out there thinking about Comcast, I would ask yourself if you REALLY NEED the upload and download, if not, I would go with something more stable and reliable. (Also, I havent been able to run a speed test from DSLR since hte tests are down, so I will do that tomorrow if they are working and update this again if there is any decent change)

**UPDATE** 1/29/07 - Well, after a few years of service, I decide to update this again. Since my last update, my speeds have been more consistent, the service hasnt went down once since last update, and even with using the connection at around 75% for a couple of months straight, I never had any problems. Even when we go to pay our bill, the people at the counter are always friendly and helpful. They even waved some fees without us even asking (minor ones yes, but it was a nice change) All in all, I'd have to say I am VERY pleased with the way this service has gotten better. If you live in the Panama City area, Comcast's 6/768 internet package is a great service. TV service is still kind of crap, but standard cable looks like crap on an HD tv anyway.
