When I first ordered I expected the same kind of run around I got from the telco, SBC. (Package via UPS in 10 days, etc.) Picked up a modem and filter at the local Comcast store and was running that afternoon. It's been out twice in 3 years. Then only for an hour or so. I'm delighted with the reliabilty. I guess it ought to be reliable at the price.
I've started using Skype to great success. Plenty of bandwidth for Skype-out conversation, Internet Radio playing, email going out and web browising all at one time with no degradation to anything.
No complaints yet.
Update: Well I shouldn't have been so kind of about their reliability and tech support. Both Failed miserably Mid April....
Update: They're reliable again for the past few months. The vaunted "end of summer upgrades" probably won't make it this year. Prices going up. I *know* a better alternative will come along. I just don't know when.
Update: It's a year from my whiney "they're always down" update. Comcast has been down ZERO times since the last update. They seem to have that act together. My "unreliability" a year ago turned out to be a local comcast install subcontractor induced failure. They messed with my connection while installing another user here at my apartment complex. The real Comcast tech said that was about 75% of the problems he encountered. POWER BOOST works. Blazing downloads. Comcast is still the best highspeed package. Pricey but the fastest we can get here in CA where I live.
Update: I can't wait for a competitor to match the Comcast Internet speeds so I can get away from these people.
