Well I live in Indianapolis, IN and here in the city the cable companies have divided the city into two parts. Most have Comcast, the rest have Bright house, TW, Roadrunner what ever its called now. I used to live on the West side of Indy so my cable was TW. When I moved to the east side my cable is now Comcast. I loved my roadrunner with TW. Before I moved I had 2000kb down and 384 up. When I moved into Comcasts area my speed was 1500kb down and 128 up and it cost more. So I was pretty pissed off when I first started out with Comcast. Over time they increased speed as well as prices. I use Dish Network and do not use Comcast cable TV. So I am charged an extra 15 dollars a month because I dont have cable TV. And I have the gold tier now so there is the extra 10 dollars making it a total of around 74.00 a month. So I dont really like that either. But its not like a have much of a choice. I dont have a land phone hooked up nor do I need one so DSL is out of the question. So I am stuck. So whether I like it or not, I am stuck with Comcast, perhaps for a very long time. I would say I am content with my service. DNS issue was a pain in the ass last couple months but I just came here to find out the problem and had it fixed in no time. Less could be said for there customer service who did not know what was going on, or did not care. I rate my connection as a B+. Stability at a B+ as well. Customer service is nonexistent and gets an F. Price of service gets a C. Overall would rate it as a C+, B-.
(Update 1-29-07)
Nothing new to report. Has been working fine for almost a year with no problems at all. Getting 8000kb down 768kb up still with the crappy speed burst stuff in-between. My ratings have changed slightly. Would rate my connection since my last review to be an A, Stability an A as well. Since I have not had to use customer service since then I rate it up to a C as its been nice not having to deal with them. Price of service is still a C as I still pay over 75 dollars for the gold tier as well as basic cable I dont use. Overall it is now rated an A-.

| Pretty much in agreement (another Indy Comcast customer) Recently upgraded to speed(gold)tier also. When using wired port on router am now powerboosting to over 20 Mbit/sec downstream. I still think they need to open the upload pipe more for speedtier, beyond 768K. They need some way to let you push a few meg upstream very fast and then throttle you down if you exceed some total volume of bits within a given time, over a few minutes or something, so that rogue FTP and web servers will still get crimped.
I think (with speedboost in place) that the extra $10 per month is probably not worth it for speedtier here.
I would probably switch to FIOS if it were available here, but Comcast has been reliable enough and functional enough to where I would only switch with care... i.e., wait until FIOS seemed to be reported as stable here and would overlap service for a month or two. Ultimately, the promise of a multi-megabit upstream pipe is just too attractive to pass up. | |

| Comcast Overrated for Gaming Hey World,
Here is my issue!? First things first I am spending 67 dollars a month for crappy comcast gold tier broadband. Yes, the speedboost is great and all but it doesn't work for gaming. What happens is that you get this nice little boost when the game loads then it throttles down that in turn creates lag which in turns makes the gaming server really pissy since they don't like that. I'll rather have a steady stream at lets say 2mbps or maybe 3mbps then having this power boost crap. Its like we are back to the old dial-up. I remember buying this stupid @$$ program that supposedly "boost your line speed"!!! Its complete BS people boost or no boost its just another "selling strategy" to make people transfer over to crappy cable service. I just recorded my quote on quote line speed in this forum. Found out that I am "downloading" at 10mbps through Comcast and uploading at 1mbps. Bullcrap then why in the hell do I get lag issues. Hmm interesting. I live in the east side of Indianapolis, IN. So I just wanted to let you all now that this power boost crap is really a "gimmik".
