After placing order we waited for 2 weeks just for them to determine that we were in a qualified area. Then they insisted on rewiring the whole house, and would not give us the option to do it ourselves. So we settled on a single jack in the room where the cable came in. We did the rest after they left. It took them yet another 2 weeks to get the gateway to accept our login. They were never able to give us a reason other than it must be problems with your house wiring "as noted in the install notes". They showed up 1 week after this call and rewired somethings on the street corner, and I'll be darned we were able to connect. Who would have figured it was on their end.

Straight Dope: Place comcast #3 or lower on your list of internet options even below 56k if you have that option...

Update 4/25/2009, In the last 5 years of doing installs for clients I have had a high rate of install problems with Comcast. I would estimate that 7 out of 10 connections require some adjustment or repair on Comcast property before client would get acceptable service. Newer modems seem to be fairly solid and only fail to function properly on about 15% of installs.
