    My Other Reviews·Cavalier Telephone
    *updated again*
Connection still fast, still mostly reliable. 2 brief outages that I know of during the last year, but only for a few hours each. Speed is still great, and no filtering of traffic that I've experienced. My IP address has stayed the same as far as I know too. Support is still largely clueless, but I don't have to call them very often, and they have live chat available for west michigan now too!
Overall I would say comcast has made up for their previous weaknesses.
I'll update yet again when I get the HD TV service soon.

    --------
This is my update to the review. The other review farther down the page is from my previous address.
After waiting 6 weeks for cavalier telephone to fail to transfer DSL to new address, I call comcast, and within 2 DAYS I had active service that rocked!
    "Speedboost" up to 20mbps!
Sustained 6mbps! MUCH lower latency than old DSL service!
The price is right, and the product is better than our previous service provider.
Talk to a few people in your building/area, if they are happy and their service is reliable, GET COMCAST!

    -----------------
*NOTE - the latency issue mentioned here was in fact due to zonealarm firewall software on the PC, not the connection. please disregard that portion of the review.

OLD REVIEW, AT OLD BUILDING WITH CRAPPY WIRING AT THE SITE:
Let me clarify this right now - WHEN the service was working, it was decent. Not great, but decent. The up and down speeds were as advertised, latency was not too bad, but the connection would pause every 2-3 minutes for 1-3 seconds, then resume. This was very annoying during online gaming, as well as causing problems with my 3rd party VOIP service.
    That's when it was working.
Uptime? what's that? The technician came to the residence, crimped new ends on the cable, "checked the signal strength", plugged in the modem, and away we went. I ran through the account setup online, ran a speed test, (which came out great), and was happy. For about an hour. The connection went down, and stayed down, despite dozens of reboots and numerous calls to Comcast. They proceeded to string me along with service calls sceduled and missed, long hold times, endless series of transfers; "Oh, well I need to transfer you to billing", "oh, that's a question for tech support" Etc.
The worst part was when I was promised a call back with a time and date for a service call, neither of which happened.
At one point a "Technician" finally came by to work on the problem:
The tech was polite enough, but apparently had only faulty equipment to work with - the daignostice equipment he used had to be held at a certain angle to get accurate readings...
After removing a filter, he declared the problem fixed, and shoved a form in my face to sign with no explanation of what it meant.
Again, the connection worked merely OK, for a few hours. After that it was up and down hourly.
I have been in contact with TalkAmerica, my wife had great service with them at her old appartment, and as soon as we get DSL up and running we will cancel this ComCrap and demand a full refund.
The service has been so bad, and the experience so frustrating, I am also looking into Satellite TV, just to stick it to comcast one more way.
At this point, I don't want an appology from Comcast, I want REVENGE.
