Comcast bought my old cable company (SusCom) in October, 2005. When the started to migrate customers away from Suscom services is when I decided to give Comcast a try. So begins my story:
October, 2006: I called up Comcast to order basic HSI; the Rep I spoke with was very helpful in getting everything setup and squared away. I had an install scheduled for a few days later. I don't subscribe to cable TV, so they needed to activate my tap... otherwise I would have installed it myself. The day arrived and 2 installers showed up to install the service. I had already had cable internet before, so everything was already in its place to be hooked up. One of the installers I come to find out later is one of our very own, Cableguy66. They were at my home for an hour or so, verified all signals, made sure it was working and left. Both were very friendly and understood that I did not need a complete install. Just put the modem in and verify that it's working.
Several speedtests, as well as actual downloads confirmed that PowerBoost was active in my area (I was surprised it was active so early in the transition). I was so spoiled by the speed and lack over upgrades from Verizon that I decided (after much internal debate. See my Verizon review here: »Review of Verizon Online DSL by krenim191) to drop Verizon and pay Comcast the higher price... just because I loved the speeds!
12-22-06: I have decided to upgrade my speeds from Comcast. I now subscribe to the 8/768 tier... as a pleasant bonus I found out that a subscription to the IGN Founders Club was included. Getting the upgrade was insanely easy. I simply called up Comcast and requested the higher tier, they read me some jargon about it being more per month, put me on hold for a few minutes. She came back on the phone and said "Try a speedtest and see what you get". Sure enough, the upgrade was active already. With Verizon it would be at least 2 or 3 days.
All in all, I'm very happy with my new Comcast service. I would recommend it to anyone in my area that is looking for fast & reliable service.
