    My Other Reviews·Verizon FIOS
    Updated! 02-25-2007

Comcast has decided to do something interesting with the Network. So, after a few outages we called in to ask what was going on, and they blamed my Motorola Surfboard modem. That didn't fly, the neighbors where down. So we called back in and they scheduled a truck roll for the weekend. But as service was restored, we called in to cancel and discovered that no appointment had ever been made.

Then, for some reason we stopped being able to access any kind of secure site, something important to paying bills, looking at the bank account, checking web mail. It would seem that the MTU size in the router was no longer correct (6 months after hook up? I would have expected to have noticed sooner, not when things stop working on a random Tuesday.)

In the end, we switched to FIOS about two weeks ago.

    -----------------------***********-----------------------

I didn't want Comcast, and went with Earthlink. Earthlink could not provide even a fraction of the advertised speed or the speed they sold me. So here we are with Comcast. I signed up for what the sales person claimed was 6/768. At install that speed wasn't even offered, they offered 6/384 or 8/768 so we will see when I get the bill.

The install was flawless, I already owned a modem so that wasn't an issue, and the tech was great.

So far everything is working, the router is plugged in, downloads seem to roll through fine, VOIP is working, and I'm fairly happy.

The only two thing I don't like are that I don't know what my actual speeds are due to powerboost, (but then seeing anything over 70Kbps right now makes me happy) and that if I moved 5 miles down the street I could get 2Mbps uploads instead of 768K. Comcast really needs to realize they are in Northern Virginia and both FIOS and COX offer those speeds.

Funny how things work! Same happened to me… I had Verizon DSL “768/128” for about 2 years and I wanted to move on to something faster. I called EarthLink and asked if I could get the 6.0Mbps that was been offered, they said “Yes” I signed up. That was June 30, to make a long story short after 3 appointments with a VERIZON phone technician and many calls to me saying there was a problem with my line they were able to connect my home phone service with DSL on July 30, apparently the problem was 2 blocks from my apartment “Yeah, Right!” Verizon DSL worked fine before… After using the service for a wile I realized I was not getting the 6.0Mbps promised to me but only about 1.3Mbps, I Called EarthLink to find out what gives… They now tell me I can’t get 6.0 but only what I was getting. Since my trial was up I ordered the service canceled called Comcast and that was the end of it… My Comcast service is “Comcastic” and I got the 6.0Mbps I wanted…

    Re: Comcast

Verizon told me last week that I can get 3/768, they did a distance check and put me at about 10000ft. Earthlink said I could get it, but now claims that Verzion is telling them I can only have 800/180 because I'm at 20,000ft. I don't get it, they keep contradicting each other.
I'm glad to hear you are enjoying your Comcast service. So far, it has been nice, I just wish I knew what I was signed up for. The install tech had me go through some menu when he was here and the prices didn't match what the promo was. The pink copy he left shows no campaign, and the folks in billing keep trying to transfer me to tech support.
They are not winning friends or influencing people today.
But my driver download was at 700K not 70, so I'm not yelling at anyone yet.
