Comcast has decided to do something interesting with the Network. So, after a few outages we called in to ask what was going on, and they blamed my Motorola Surfboard modem. That didn't fly, the neighbors where down. So we called back in and they scheduled a truck roll for the weekend. But as service was restored, we called in to cancel and discovered that no appointment had ever been made.
Then, for some reason we stopped being able to access any kind of secure site, something important to paying bills, looking at the bank account, checking web mail. It would seem that the MTU size in the router was no longer correct (6 months after hook up? I would have expected to have noticed sooner, not when things stop working on a random Tuesday.)
In the end, we switched to FIOS about two weeks ago.

I didn't want Comcast, and went with Earthlink. Earthlink could not provide even a fraction of the advertised speed or the speed they sold me. So here we are with Comcast. I signed up for what the sales person claimed was 6/768. At install that speed wasn't even offered, they offered 6/384 or 8/768 so we will see when I get the bill.
The install was flawless, I already owned a modem so that wasn't an issue, and the tech was great.
So far everything is working, the router is plugged in, downloads seem to roll through fine, VOIP is working, and I'm fairly happy.
The only two thing I don't like are that I don't know what my actual speeds are due to powerboost, (but then seeing anything over 70Kbps right now makes me happy) and that if I moved 5 miles down the street I could get 2Mbps uploads instead of 768K. Comcast really needs to realize they are in Northern Virginia and both FIOS and COX offer those speeds.
