I have had Comcast of some form since 1998. With the exception of my old apartment, the service has been fast and reliable.
I have no other options for broadband since I do not have a landline (maybe AT&T offers naked DSL now, not sure). I have the 8m/768k package. Install was so long ago, things have probably changed. I have a Motorola SB5120 modem. And I pay about 70 bucks total per month because I have DirecTV instead of Comcast for video.
At my old place in D9 off the Chamblee head end, I had nothing but problems. I paid for 8mb service but got 2mb service. This was a physical plant problem.
At my current place, I get my 8mb service, get power boost, and have not rebooted my router in 221 days. I cannot remember the last time I rebooted the modem. The term reliable is the best way to describe the service here.
As long as you don't move into an area that has known issues in the plant that Comcast refuses to fix, you can rely on their service.
