Comcast TV first installed in 1991. Installed Internet when it first became available about 1998(?). Previously used ISDN which was often unreliable because of changes in the central office. I am too far from the CO to get regular DSL, but recently U-verse became available in my area. Now I can get competitive pricing from Comcast because I can compare prices with AT&T.

Currently have Digital Preferred with HBO package which I prefer to U-verse because I can connect addition TV's without a box. We use our DVR quite a bit and have a second box. Internet is standard 6M with a rental modem.

When I've needed service, it has been a pain. I did get rebate and some free service after a tech no show for service.

As I've made changes, Comcast sales has made promises that they can't deliver. Once I went to the office to pick up my new digital box, the lady looked at my record and said "she can't do this" and changed my service to something more expensive. Recently I was offered 3M Internet which doesn't exist. Every time I talk to almost anyone at Comcast, they try to push phone service. My calculation is that it would be more expensive because the majority of our long distance is overseas, but they still try to push that first.

The actual Internet connection is pretty solid, but I had to switch to use opendns.org for DNS because of repeated problems with Comcast DNS servers. I've never used Comcast's email addresses so changing would be easy. Paying $42.95 plus $5 modem rental is too expensive when I can get 3M service with free interface from AT&T for $30.

1/15/2009 I'm still with Comcast for both TV and Internet. As soon as I mentioned U-Verse, I was put on a "package" that is competitive with U-Verse pricing for TV. Internet has been rock solid since switching to OpenDNS. My upload speed is better than I could get from U-Verse and I am reluctant to mess with the good VOIP performance with my asterisk PBX.

For the time being, I am sticking with Comcast. I will continue to compare U-Verse to Comcast since both have unique advantages that could sway me in the future. The ATT sales rep I talked to claims I can not get just U-Verse Internet as of the beginning of 2009. I don't want to pay for a set top box for every TV that U-Verse requires, but I would like the include WIFI roaming at ATT hotspots.

6/1/2009 I canceled Comcast Internet today and waited in the long line to return the modem. Before I ordered U-Verse and before it was installed I called Comcast to ask if they could match U-Verse pricing. They would not budge. So today when I called to actually cancel, I was offered a lower price for the same service. I told her it was too late and didn't even ask for the offer. Comcast had its chance.

U-Verse 3/1 for $30 month 'feels' just as fast as the 6/2 from Comcast and there is no modem rental charge. Or I can go to 6/1 for $35. Also, ATT still has NNTP news servers versus paying after Comcast dropped news servers.

It's painful to talk to anyone at Comcast since they spend so much time trying to push phone service. After canceling Internet I was offered Internet and phone for $79 month. I was breathlessly told it was a great deal. Even including taxes it is at least $25 more than I am paying for phone and Internet separately and there is certainly an EMTA charge and taxes to be added by Comcast.

If you can get the same speeds on internet for cheaper why don't you switch already?

yea switch to uverse so when you turn on your tv is shares you bandwidth with the hsi. i friend got uverse with 6mb connection. turned on one hd channel and connection drops to 3 mb. also has four hd tv in the home . cant even watch all tv at once. his hsi went out of one time and tv did not work either. customer service i think is about the same as comcast. sometime you get a good rep sometimes you dont
